Lucas, you are the god of all newbs, this pack lets me streamline my adventures, since it lets me edit settings prelaunch, tells me what those settings DO, and hell, would you mind if I upload it to ModDB?

hm... i dunno, you'd have to include references to stuff other modders did, and with their permission too...

Your arguments seem baseless because, even when newbies use the Lazy Newb Pack, the learning curve is still very steep and it is still very much geared toward intelligent gamers with patience and at least above average maturity. DF is not like WoW where you have a lot of prepubescent children because the game is easy to learn and play.

PS: And, yes, your last post did reek of elitism.
the two main things have been highlighted.
(god I actually refuse to play WoW with friends to not get stuck in a kind of shit cycle)

The whole game is geared towards the intelligent and mature(-ish), if you are too (for a lack of a better word) stupid to climb a learning cliff, you will have trouble later in life.

Also, from your post, I believe you do not realize this isn't a complete FULL version of the game yet, notice that it is 0.31.18, meaning, we are ~31% of the way towards a FINAL, COMPLETE version, which will most likely contain a tutorial.

I, too, am eagerly awaiting the update for 31.19. :D

However I suspect a 31.20 will be forthcoming soonish. 31.19 looks to have some significant bugs already.

I love the LazyNewb pack, helps getting people interested in the game. It makes it a helluva lot more approachable, and so people who would otherwise flee in terror at the ASCII become curious at the tilesets and begin playing. Once they get over that initial apprehension they're hooked.  ;)

I dunno. We may wait to release .20, but there will likely be 1-2 weeks of bugfixing (and so either rapid successions of releases or a .20 with very low bugs) so we may want to wait.

the final word is on Lucas.

I won't officially update this pack until there are a couple .19 compatible graphic packs.

That said, the lazy newb pack GUI will work with any version of the game. Anyone could copy over DF 31.19 overtop of the contents of 31.18 in the Dwarf Fortress folder (and even rename it to Dwarf Fortress 0.31.19 if you wanted)

I've tested it and it works, even installing old graphics packs. However, I would recommend waiting for updated packs for 31.19, as otherwise you are installing .18 raws and you would be missing out on some features.
I don't know how many new features you'll actually see as a result of updating an old save, or using an old graphics pack.

So we aren't getting a compatible LNP for this DF release yet?

it seems there are quite a few bugs (cavern creatures on the surface, wool crashes, etc.) and new graphics (bees and co., new animals) so we might be waiting.
also: don't forget to NOT run the savegame updater... it WILL break the games.

I'm pretty sure it is save incompatible. While you can update to 31.19 your current fortresses will not be able to take advantage of the new features, which are mostly raw based. If you want to make a 31.19 fortress make it in 31.19, but trying to import your 31.18 fortress to 31.19 won't work.

It doesn't break saves per sea but none of the new stuff works so it is pretty pointless.

Oh. If you actually update to a .19 graphics set, (tried with .19 Phoebus) then yes it will break:

DO NOT Install .19+ graphics sets over .18 saves. They will break.
DO NOT "Update Savegames" from .18 to .19+
Installing and Updating .18 Graphics Sets over .18 saves will still work with .19+, and should un-break a save. You will not see many new features though.

I removed the latest fight back some posts.  Please don't derail the thread.  I don't want to contribute to that, so please don't reply to this (I won't reply), but on the subject of version numbering, 0.31 referred at the time to 31 of the specific dev 100 core items being finished.  Then we changed dev systems and the version number was on hold for a while.  Now it refers to being 0% complete done with a new list that counts for 0.69 of the version number, but the new slightly unsettled list pretty much corresponds to the old core items, so it's not much of a change.
