I do not know if this has already been addressed or not, but my virus scanner (MSE) has detected several "backdoors". What is going on? I thought that this was safe!

This is because DFHack is essentially poking about in memory used by DF and modifying things. Thats classic trojan behaviour. Of course, DFHack is completely safe, so you can ignore the error.

Ok, that makes sense. However, MSE said it Quarantined the exe's. If this is the case, then why does the lazy newb pack's DF hacks still work at all? Shouldn't they have been disabled? Is something wrong with my virus scanner? Tks

as the old dfhack was basically 'hacking' the df exe, of course some not so perfect AVs will detect these tools as potential threat.

in any case, if you had a recent version of dfhack, there wouldn't even be anymore warning since now dfhack is integrated as a console command line instead of exes running alongside the main df exe.

and maybe also your av definitions and engine is not updated since i also have the MS av and it didn't bother me with these tools.

Yes, I was puzzled because it didn't detect it until a few days ago however I downloaded the lazy newb pack a few months ago

V9.3 of the LNP has the new dfhack, so you should download that to avoid any more nonsense about DFHack being a virus from your antivirus. If you aren't waiting for the next version of the LNP, that is.

As for why the LNP's DFHacks work, it depends on what you mean. Are you using those specific utilities that it said it quarantined, or are you referring to something else? Quarantining those specific tools from DFHack shouldn't affect the rest of the LNP.

As for the Qt/C++ version, yeah there's still a while to go on that. I've been pretty busy lately, so I haven't had much time to work on it.

I never not used the 2011 profile of his, and now it's becoming kind of a pain to manually 'carefully embark' after I begin every new fort. :/

Probably a couple of weeks since all the utilities it is made up of have to catch up and work out the bugs.

There was some talk about an update with only some utilities. Phobeus, Ironhead and Therapist are already updated, dfhack update is a work in progress. I guestimate, there will be an LNP update within a week, and after that some more updates, as more tools become ready. I could download a pre-made Phobeus and Therapist even now, but I'm lazy

Question? Is there a way to upgrade to the latest version of Dwarf Fortress? I tried putting the zip file in the directory and copied over my save games into the data/save directory but it only gives me option to create a new fortress. It also then crashes...

There were pretty big changes, so I wouldn't try an update. If You want to try it, there are supposed to be some tools for that, and they were included in LNP, but I can't find them now.
