Ninja Deer?
« on: June 10, 2010, 10:57:52 pm »

So the past two season's a deer, not a fancy deer just regular deer, has been terrorizing my young fort.  I sent my military (1 wrestler, 1 axe dwarf) to go kill it.  but the damn thing lives on.  It is covered in red wounds, but on it fights.  Also when checking the log, it appears able to grab my dwarves with every damn appendage.

That's what DF needs, The gutbuster brigade.  Screw that elf and his cat. Thibbledorf Pwent is the real hero.

Yeah, you didn't know how deer have prehensile antlers? You should get outside more. :P

Make sure you aren't using blunt weapons. They maim, but rarely kill.

Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

If you can find it, it's not a ninja deer. It's a Rambo deer.

Deers seem to be somewhat badass lately. Maybe that's because of their horns(deers regrow horns every year, and the ingame ones may ignore\regenerate wounds because of it), but there is nothing unusual in raws.

I love that name "Bambo", by the way. So will they re-grow appendages?

Make a miner a squad captain, assign it a pick and send it to help because a pointy weapon is needed to kill things.  Wrestling and blunt weapons may turn the deer's insides to paste, but as long as the paste doesn't leak out it doesn't count as bleeding.

I've had the same thing happen, in 31.01.

Deer escapes while being moved from a cage, and runs amok. It gets into the forges, into the kitchen, eventually it finds its way into a big exploratory mining tunnel. The civilian dwarf who was supposed to cage it keeps chasing it around, as does the military dwarf who neglected to pick up a weapon.

I'm watching these dwarves chase a deer around and around in circles, and almost subconsciously start humming Benny Hill.

Eventually Urist McSoldier catches it and starts punching. The deer fights back. The soldier's baby gets involved.
The Dwarven Baby Urist Mcwtf punches the deer in the front left hoof, but the shot glances away!
The Dwarven Baby Urist Mcwtf punches the deer in the rear right hoof, but the shot glances away!
The Dwarven Baby Urist Mcwtf punches the deer in the head, but the shot glances away!

Pages and pages of these reports, until the deer grabs the baby by the arm, shakes her around and rips her arm clean off. The deer, now with a name, eventually dies (I think I assigned another soldier, and made sure he grabbed an axe). I think I got some leather and a totem out of her.
