My second or third fortress ever had this, actually, although mine was in the middle of a freshwater, good lake.

Mine settled down reasonably quickly; after a few minutes of unpausing the constant "A section of the cavern has collapsed" notifications the volcano was capped over with obsidian and still completely underwater.

The map was actually a really cool one - it was a sheer cliffside next to the lake with an enormous drop in most places, but a tiny few tile descent on one side of the map. I built my fort entrance there so as to be impregnable.

Anyway, I didn't realize this was so rare of unheard of, since I had just started playing, even though I did think it was really cool when it happened to me...

It did make it hard to tap the magma, though...

You could also turn off cave ins in the init for an instant cap.

Very rare: want.

Lost cause? This is amazing. Please upload your save or give us the seed for generating this world. This is a treasure that must be preserved for the ages.

I'd love for a save with an underwater volcano, don't care what game version its for. Theres too much science to be done.

O.O

I didn't realize this would generate so much attention!

After a while, you're right.. the cave ins stopped and it's now covered with about 2-3 zlevels of water, with an obsidian capping.

I'm worried I won't be able to reach it for a while anyway because I need to dig under an aquifier, but thats part of the challenge right?

How do I upload this for you guys? I can give you guys the map just after an embark or something if you want.. or maybe you want the entire map? (It's huge, though. HUGE.)

Also, it appears not to be an evil ocean as I had thought it would be... damn my newbieness!

Edit: Also, there IS land. The ocean covers quite a bit, I REALLY wanted a volcano so used this. I'm worried also now that adamantine has been discovered a king will come soon and really throw off my game even if I can't even touch it for a few years probably...

If the king comes, SACRIFICE HIM TO THE VOLCANO-GOD OF WATER AND FIRE.

Back up the save, and abandon the fortress. Enter Legends mode with that world and there should be an option to export worldgen info.

Okay, I abandoned the fortress. Stupid me I made the embark area HUGE (several times the normal size) so now the entire island is covrered with my previous embark zone of newbie failure.

I'll try to export the worldgen info like you said and upload that on DF files maybe..

Edit: I can't seem to get to legends mode.. I don't see the option.

I have the region in my data folder, I could upload that but it'll have a god awfully huge zone. :(

Export information will create a .txt, then copy-paste into a spoiler and post it here.

Oops, I got it now. New newbie question, once exported map/gen info, it creates a bunch of txt files, which ones do you want?
region1-world_gen_param,
region1-world_history
region1-world_sites_and_pops

Here is the world_gem_param ...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Remember that when I CREATED the world, I cancelled half-way through the 'retelling' thingy, around year 600.. not sure exactly when. Hopefully it'll let you start with the exact layout..

I wonder what you'd get if you had an underwater volcano in a freezing climate?

I would guess that magma melts water, which solidifies the magma.
