Dwarf Fortress Web-Comic Strip in Progress
« on: June 10, 2010, 06:45:55 pm »

Okay, this is a piece of shameless PR here :P

I've been bored to hell doing my year project and finished reading two other DF strips i managed to find, but they're quite dead. So considering the rate of my boredom i took on planning my own DF web comic strip, and it was so interesting i gave it a try.

The bad thing, i am not nearly an artist.
The good thing, at least i can draw better than "5-years-old-got-the-crayons style", but this is my first comic strip, so "be gentle"(c)  ;D
Another thing, English is my second, so spelling/styling mistakes are possible, i'll fix them if someone would point them for me.
And, even before anyone asks - i know that dwarves are usually drawn somewhat different from what i do; there is an explanation in the plot for that, it's just not online yet.

This is the first page
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And this is where it lives:
http://dfstory.thecomicseries.com/

There's only 5 pages online so far, but i think it's enough to decide if i should go on and post more.

I'll keep an eye on it.
My only problem with alot of the story mode DF comics ive read is that they are boring. A lot of the jokes have been done already, mandates, nobles, pathfinding, socks, etc.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I'd definitely watch this one. Most DF comics peter out quickly, though. Which is a shame.

There are many issues with this statement.

Yeah I drew boatmurdered but stopped quite early. I need to change the style, I am not content with a crappy style I used, but tit takes time. Also Fault has an awesome comic which is not based on DF lore, but has a really awesome world which should be loved by any DF fan.

Inside jokes about DF have been done but it's a rich backdrop to set a comic universe in for setup of the timeless jokes. Not to mention the many different opportunities for slapstick.

yeah, DF universe is sooo rich...  and after a skeletal undead toad alone ate my whole fortress with two waves of migrants, i say: never underestimate the fun that DF may produce beside basic jokes about "socks of death" and nobles doing sky-jumping...
