Yeah, I think Aftershock is the best of the series.

Has anyone made a random map mod for it? It's the only thing keeping me from playing again. I'd cry if I saw the same base map again.

Figured out the problem. It was immediately going to the mission with default equipment as soon as the mission popped up. I just waited and when a mission came up to reclaim the region I took it. Pwned those beastmen's asses.

Pnx

Aftermath is my favorite of the series, tends to get very recursive towards the end, and it's a little dumb how the equipment and bases etc, is handled. But there's an awesome feel to running through the streets of a major city shooting zombies and hiding behind cars as a gigantic mutant thingemy throws spores at you. I also loved how you could delegate, because seriously, I don't want to fight every single mission, just the big ones.

Each game has a unique feel to it which I like, they each have their own theme and I think this was by design.

I played the whole series, and loved every minute.

When I click on break treaty for Reticulans (Where you have to break it to make peace with the expedition) everything else except that greys out and they're still listed as alliance, I can attack them and all, but the expedition is still neutral towards me.

I am pretty sure they remain neutral until you actually attack them.

Didn't he attack them?
Or are you just saying you CAN attack them?
You should steal their crystals. :D

Usually the first thing I do is wipe out the reticulans. That way I get tons of their laser batteries and don't need to develop my own lasers for a while. Also they have other stuff that is good, like crystals.

I'm going to try Aftershock.

I hated Aftermath. I mean HATE it. I did finish it, but it was horribly unbalanced. Seriously. I had to reload several times before entering a mission because literally I spawned INSIDE A CRATER, with 30 aliens with their alien bazookas around it, and pretty much half a dozen of their missiles in mid air two inches from my face (the most baddass armor probably won't stop a single missile explosion, even a grazing wound). Other times the whole mission was getting "aggro" with one of my soldiers as he ran in circles around them making them waste their (unlimited) rockets while the rest of the squad got to a safe spot. Again, from the point where they spawned half-shot to hell. I mean WTF, I know some games are supposed to be gritty and "realistic" but I'd appreciate if my squad didn't get killed before I pushed the "start mission" button.

Exactly.
And it just makes the game easier if you get rid of them sooner, you get a lot of land you can expand to this way.

Kill them all!

Heh, yes you will have to go to war on the Reticulans.

Not to mention how frail they are when they don't have their shield suit things.

Most of their degradation is explained in the flavor text for the game.

Basically a lot of them were turned into drooling idiots.
