i'm not a great fan of democracy though, or at least majoritarianism. masses are dumb, votes should be reserved for intelectuals
That's pretty much the Elder counsel system, and is pretty much the worst idea ever. having your IQ higher than a certain number does not at any point make you better than the common man, and it certainly doesn't make you uncorrupted.
i am of the opinion that being more intelligent makes you make better decisions,
luckily most modern democracies are constitutional republics that guarantee that at least some fundamental laws aren't subjected to the masses whims, but hand a country over to direct democracy and you'd get a pretty terrible place.
being synonymous with something bad does, tough...
Obviously the synonyms aren't perfect.
Or maybe not agreed upon.
Either way not equal in everybodies opinion.
etymologically, they are pretty close.
democracy is quite horrible in many areas, but unluckily for us it is also the best we have so far. ( at least if we value freedom. If freedom wasn't considered important, other systems would be better I think... but I like freedom).
churchill said "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."
i agree that democracy beats many of it's alternatives, but i don't think it's a good reason to stop considering new political systems. Also, i don't think personal freedom should be above life in a healthy scale of values.
IQ doesn't correlate to the quality of their morals or their ethics. You don't necessarily need smart people leading you, you need moral and ethical people leading you so they make choices you can live with.
morals are subjective, i want a government that is mathematically better at keeping people alive and happy, intelligent people are better at maths:P either way, the majority cannot be trusted in either intelligence or morality,
"intelligent" is also a word that hasn't been satisfyingly defined, tough, and i certainly don't think I'm qualified to say who is intelligent, but sometimes stupidity is clearly identifiable
