What if we have perfectly unbiased AI overlords in charge of our communism?

Keep in mind democracy didn't really work at first either.......in my opinion we will be forced to slowly become more comunistic as more and more jobs become automated.

reasons comunism didnt work:
lazyness
and greed

there are a few aquaponic farms that churn out way more food than traditional farms using the same area....and require considerably less work....labor intensive jobs are jobs no one wants....there also the easiest to automate. i would suspect a succesful comunist state to be highly advanced in robotics. and i suspect that a succesful communist state to invest a lot more in its education.

not to say people dont think solving everyday problems is fun..people do it all the time in hackerspaces. the products are usually something like opensource software, or opensource hardware (my personal favorite is the reprap.....)

I think it has been explored in Ursula K.Le Guin's "The Dispossessed". Seemed like one of the more believable utopias, come to think of it. It did start to degrade with time, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, what Cthulhu said. It's just science fiction.

the only two ways to do this is either to have absolutely everything in enormous abundance (and I mean everything).
Nanotechnology. Give it 30 years.

Wait... what?

I can't think of a failed democracy. Sure, Athens went to war against Sparta and that was stupid, but there wasn't the massive collapse that a lot of failed communistic societies experience. I suppose you could make some argument for Rome, but that ended because of a massive civil war based on creating an emperor! So, yes, citation needed. (To clarify: I'm not attacking you here, but I am puzzled where this assertion comes from. If you've got some evidence, I'd love to see it.)

Despite obvious mockery:

In capitalism, you can work and not have enough to nourish yourselves and support your family. It's not quite as bad in the USA but such behaviour is widespread in other countries. It's essentially a product of capitalism.
In the end, it's all about exploiting you. Not help you in any way, mind you, that's secondary, and some stuff is not even useful. Even the government, which is supposed to protect people from the exploiters, will happily rip you off. Politicians need high salaries too, no?

bjlong, Cuba may not be an economic power but it's clearly the least poor and most well educated state of South America.
And I said: Undesirable tasks should be shared communally. This also encourages innovations.

And no, the surgeon should not be awarded more.
Doing a job because it's got higher salary is a capitalist syndrome. In Communism, people are doing jobs because they enjoy them.
In Cuba, doctors are not well-paid. They've got a low salary, in fact. Still, Cuba's patients per doctor ratio considerably lower than the USA's, even if they are not well-paid.

Loosen your pants or stop talking out your ass, your voice is muffled.  People have been working themselves to death and dying because they don't have enough since there were people to work themselves to death.

What a triumph.

Then how do you get people to be sewage workers? or work with the criminally insane? or collect the bins every week? You'd be hard pressed to find enough people who enjoy working with sewage to run one city, let alone an entire country.

What about jobs like prison guard, where you don't necissarily want someone who really enjoys their job to have the position?

How do you get sewage workers in any system? A conversion to communism wouldn't suddenly ensure an abundance of high end jobs for all who want them..

Cthulhu, don't get offensive. In Communism, this would not exist.
Also, look at what shit Cuba was in before the revolution.

fenrif, what have I said earlier? Undesirable tasks are split up communally because it is, in your example literally, everybody's shit. And again, somebody ingenious having to do shit work leads to innovations, like self-cleaning toilets.
Also, there are obviously people who enjoy working with the criminally insane, because there are people doing the job.

Funny that you should mention Cuba as an example in "all incomes being the same". Quoting Raul Castro "Socialism means social justice and equality, but of rights, and opportunities, not of income. Equality is not equalitarism. Which, ultimatedly, would be a form of oppression as well: that of the good worker by the one who isn't. Or worse, the lazy one"

I did never state Cuba is communist. I did state repeatedly that it isn't. It's however on the way to become communist.

Well currently you pay them enough that it's worth it for them to do the job. Obviously not everyone gets to be a doctor or a lawyer or whatever, but assuming that people will do horribly unpleasant jobs for the love of it is ridiculous. If everyone gets the same pay, then why not be a gardener or a driver, or some other relatively low-end job? You'd be compensated the same, and you don't stink of shit every day.

Cthulhu, don't get offensive. In Communism, this would not exist.

You can't just assume that putting someone like a doctor to work in a crap job will result in innovation. It doesn't work like that.

I did never state Cuba is communist. I did state repeatedly that it isn't. It's however on the way to become communist.

So you're example of a really successfull communist country isn't really a communist country? Wonder why that is...
