There have been a few changes to the raws...

Which raws were changed?

The full list is on file_changes.txt. It's mostly adjusting the material properties for teeth, horns, and other natural materials, which were the same as skin. So, effectively, making giant war tigers useful again.  :D
Yay for War Tigers!

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Is it normal to be getting over 20,000 rejects when trying to generate a world?

The only changes I made were to use a specific seed and I maxed out Embark points to 10,000.

I don't know what was wrong, but I erased world_gen.txt and copied a fresh one from the zip file and created a new world gen parameter thingy and now it's working.

What is a Legacy Version compared to SDL?

Read the thread :<

Question: Whats the difference between Legacy and SDL versions?
The SDL version has a newer graphics engine, with support for resizing the window on the fly, .png/alpha tilesets, and support for mac/linux. It's not completely perfect yet so the legacy version is staying for a while.
May I just ask what's the difference between Legacy and SDL versions?
I believe Legacy uses the old systems for rendering and input handling.  SDL uses the new stuff.

You could have borked another setting by accident. The embark points just sets how many points are available to use when you embark in that world, it wouldn't have any effect on the worldgen itself.

Kennels. Just assign "train war dogs" and it'll interpret that as "train war animals".

Actually, I am wondering about the complaints about farming and irrigation. I mean, my biggest frustration with the 2D version was the need to irrigate my farms and thus put my fortress at serious risk (by the water itself thanks to the various perma-flood bugs back then, and by the cave river critters). If I recall correctly, I ended up simply channelling the surface river to get the water for my farms. Still, a lot of people were making successful fortresses and were having a lot of fun.

I am wondering - are we a bit too pampered by the 3D version's game mechanics?
If anything, we're pampered by 40d when setting up an underground farm was a matter of "dig out room in soil, make plots". Though I don't understand what's hard about doing the exact same thing but next to a murky pool. Do people hate counting tiles that much?

My last dozen forts in 40D always had the farms on stone anyway... I always liked compact, squarish, forts in 3D with plumbing layers between floors, and cut out of stone. So this is a bit of a non-change for me. Ever since I started playing DF I've dreamed of the day where we have digging enemies (in some form) and strong siege engines. So I've always designed accordingly, and given how much labour farming eats up, having central farms on stone always made sense for me. (Better than every idler having to walk across the map to harvest.)

According to this page, surgery is broken:

See .06 mentioned after bug.

Is this true? Is it really utterly broken?

Legacy means old. Old usually means bad.

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

I thought it wasn't that badly broken? Surely a patient requiring surgery will atleast sometimes be healed? Or is a surgery requirement a death sentence with 100% certainty even in .06?

I'm pretty sure that article is exaggerating how frequently the problem occurs.  Here's the tracker entry if you're interested, though.

I'm certain I recall reading reports (long before .06) of dwarves getting treated properly even after getting mangled like that and worse.
