When Dwarf Fortress finally makes it into beta, everything will be 100% scientifically correct. Except for the whole mythical creatures crap and magic and such.

And then we'll start working on graphics..

By the time DF reaches Beta, everyone on these forums will be long dead, with development taken up by the eventual Cult of the Toad.

Arguably, DF will probably become the first AI

Edit: Isn't magma a catch-all term? If magma is just molten rock, then adding water would be different for every type of rock.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

It isn't official untill we have a slogan.

Quick, someone come up with a slogan. Then we can make statues of Toady and dance around them chanting, with cultists occasionally dashing up to the bookshelves around the base of the statue, pulling a book out, and changing a single line of code. The books would then be slowly processed by a giant scanner, before the code could be compiled and run on a giant computer fueled by the souls of infidels, and cooled by their blood. It would attain 6FPS (souls are a good source of speed) running a fortress with several thousand dwarfs on a 6x6 map, with each dwarf functioning independently and designing the fortress according to their own whims.

Every day at midnight, the previous day's events in the fortress (a year in fortress-time, I think) would be played back at 200FPS, so that the cultists could see what was happening. It would have to be done on a different computer, though, so that they could pause and look at the pages and pages of information about each dwarf, and their motivations for doing whatever they were doing.

New members of the cult would be sworn to secrecy, lest scientists trying to develop AI hear about it and seek the sacred source code. Still, there will be dark rumors, and some will try to seek them out - and be either converted, or used as fuel.
