I'm going to watch the whole movie with this on max volume.

I heard this on the radio in Louisiana one time.

Apparently this is just a short film to try and sell a new MK movie to producers. That kinda surprises me, given how much makeup ect.. they already did.

And you doomsayers are funny. An MK without the supernatural? That would be like Batman without the ****ing Batmobile. I don't doubt the supernatural is there. But shame on them for not proving it in the trailer!

Well it's possible they just didn't have the SFX budget to put in any of the supernatural stuff into this trailer thingie... But I wouldn't put it past Hollywood to take it out entirely.

I mean, reptile is meant to be an actual reptile ninja, barakka is meant to be some sort of extra-dimensional monster, etc. None of that is present in this.

Sort of how like Rash Alghoul (Sp?) from Batman was just a bad ass ninja/terrorist, and not some kind of immortal like he was in the animated series?

Yes, somethings do get reimagined to fill out a world. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole "Outworld" angle gets thrown out in favor of something more tied to our own world. Then again...that's pretty much the entire reason for the MK tournament in the first place...so I dunno. Skorpion had dead eyes...I think that's a tacid admission the supernatural is still there. We'll see.

Either way, it's going to be a decent popcorn flick I think.

Maybe that would be the "twist," the Outworld would remain hidden for the first bit of the movie, before moving on to show some supernatural elements.

Now, THAT would piss me off, just because the blind swordsman is it's own thing and has no business being grafted on to an already badass character. But just going on one shot of a dude with milky eyes, it's hard to say which it really is.

And yeah, if the Outworld plot line was still in, I'd expect them to approach it like that. Make 90% of the movie about the actual tournament, and only introduce the concept of Outworld at the end. (Ostensibly to set up the next movie.)

It'd be kind of hard to reconcile though, especially if it sticks close to this trailer thingie. Barakka is a psycho surgeon, reptile is someone with harlequins disease sorpion is a blind dude, etc.... Oh btw magic and interdimensional transport and thunder gods too.

If they have outworld in it, it should be a major plotpoint throught the first film. I mean, half the fighters would be obviously supernatural. It's not the sort of thing you can half an half on, either outworld and stuff are in and its a tournament with gordo and raiden and everyone... Or it's out and its a tournament with diseased and psychotic humans.

I doubt they're making another MK film -- we're a week away from E3. Chances are this is just marketing to hype up their next MK game, which will be a reboot of the franchise. I thought we were past the goofy days of live-action video game trailers, but apparently not so.

If this were a full film, movie websites would've caught wind of it ages ago, after all. They don't generally keep this kind of stuff under wraps. I loved the first one (but then again, I haven't seen it in 7 years -- it was released the year I was born, too) so I can only hope this paves the path for a new film

That's a decent point. But WB IS looking to reboot the movie franchise as well.

Chances are it's both; a promo for a new game and a new movie. (Because Hollywood is incapable of releasing a big budget action movie without trying to cash in on it as a video game as well.)

Especially since the MK universe already has a blind swordsman character...

Barakka is a psycho surgeon, reptile is someone with harlequins disease sorpion is a blind dude, etc...

It's kind of fun trying to think of ways they could reintroduce other characters in this style. Codename, Raiden : An ex-electrician with a messiah complex. Quan Chi : The murderous albino with a taste for blood.

It's neither. The director wanted to get studios interested in doing a reboot so shot this as a sort of advert for what he could do with it.

Onaga: a Chinese general who wants to restore the Imperial Throne.

Goro: a pro-wrestler whose in-character persona is called "The Prince of Pain".

Ermac: An assassin with really bad Multiple Personality Disorder.

I think they could get away with "freak of nature raised by diabolical Asian government for under-handed (many-handed?) things" and keep the multiple arms. Your's is pretty good though.

I thought Reptile's character was pretty clever. Harlequin disease is scary, and I can't imagine how much pain someone would go through living their life with their skin and eyeballs inside out.

That being said, the trailer was a bit lacking in spirit. I kept glancing at the time, wondering if they'd show -more- because I thought it was an poorly edited trailer.
