Wurm Online is an indie MMO, developed by swedish developer Rolf Jannson. It mainly features gigantic maps, completely open terraforming, and a completely player driven world. I'm not joking- everything you see is player made, aside from the basic tools you start with. The crafting system is deeper than an olymping swimming pool, as is the skill system. It's also focused around survival, as you have to eat and drink to stay live, along with ensuring that your nutrition stays up.

It's free if you want to play on the golden valley free server, which has a skill cap of 20 and many other limitations. It costs 15 euros for two months of game time, which gives you access to the main servers, which are fairly populated. There are two main servers, Freedom and Wild. The freedom server is a non-PVP server with a focus around PVE, crafting, building giant cities, and etcetera. Wild is a PVP server, where most towns are extremely fortified and terraformed, with more powerful animals and a territory control system for the three kingdoms.

The three kingdoms are Jenn-Kellon, Mol-Rehan, and the Horde of the Summoned. Jenn-Kellon and Mol-Rehan worship the gods of the White Light, essentially the good gods of the game. They are Vynora, the god of water and crafting, Fo, the god of trees and nature, and Magranon, the god of rock and war. The Horde of the Summoned worship Libilia, who is a god of evil and this creepy mushroom stuff called mycelium which grows all over their territory and gives their members bonuses.

The crafting system is extremely deep. Everything you have and use, aside from the noob tools which you have at the beginning, is made by players. You have to mine and prospect for good iron to make high quality tools, and trees can and have become valuable resources in the past. To make a house, you'd have to cut down a bunch of trees, cut the felled trees into logs, and cut the logs into planks. Then, you'd have to mine untill you find iron, which you could do through prospecting rock. You'd then have to smelt the iron and make it into large nails. You'd then use the planks and nails on a house foundation, made by a mallet, to construct the house. That's just one of the things you can make. Here's a list of skills.

This game is really too deep and complicated for me to fully explain here, so you should check out the website for more information.

If you're interested, or already play, we have our own dwarf fortress in the southwest of the freedom server. We need more people down here, so please feel free to visit.

I love the idea of Wurm online, I'm just not too fond of the constant commitment required to be put into an MMO...

EDIT: And the reason is because I tend to hop from one thing to another, and sometimes I'll hop back to it...

Kindly refer to the search function, next time.

That said: Nice game, but requires oodles of spare time. And H&H is already eating up mine.

My last tour however I helped build the Jenn-Kellons starter village in golden valley. :D

Those are ancient threads, and the least ancient of them are lacking in information about the game.

Technically you can list me as Mayor.
Noble is the status I assign to high-ranking dwarfs.

Thread age really does not matter much on this forum. Unless the original subject matter has been nuked from orbit or was lost in a military coup after a attempt to seceede from the rest of the nation it's perfectly okay to necro.

Being that we've started a village, being able to edit the OP would be beneficial.

If you're on an ATI card, did you try switching the renderer from JOGL + AWT to LWJGL? That might help.

Considering that previous colonization attempts have most assuredly been nuked at some point, wether from age or server crash. I concede to your point.

Still, this is like the 7th thread on Wurm alone.

I genuinely laughed. My PC's integrated. I do have 40 quid lying around though, maybe it's time to invest.

Not a chance.

I was going to mention something about the number of wurm threads, but since someone else took my cause... I can relax... Just make sure to mention it's a new village in the topic, otherwise most B12ers who played wurm will simply skip your thread.

Great mmo for digging and mining. Needs better progression though IMO.

I would love an mmo that implemented wurm style terraforming/building with atitd crafting and some decent combat.
