Yes, but charges run out.

What about a certain number of charges a day?

To answer your questions, if I failed to pick the lock or it broke somehow, I could just blast the door open! How many people fireball-proof their doorknobs anyway?

Everyone with a metal door has fireball-proofed their door.

Charges per day are a way to make an item with inifinite charges cheaper. It'll cost you a lot less to get an item with 50 charges that you can only use 3 charges per day, but once you've used it 50 times, it's done.

I believe that that's a separate formula. It's more expensive, yet more permanent.

Hrrm. I think I know what I'm going to find. Some sort of Mage Armor.

An iron door has 60 hitpoints. You'd overcomes its hardness, but you wouldn't be able to light it on fire, only do damage once per round. It'll take you forever to get through a door. Plus, lockpicks with a flaming property would cost 1.5x as much, since lockpicks have absolutely no claim to destructive fire. Actually, the whole point of a lockpick is to AVOID taking the "win by breaking everything mwahaha" route.

Yeah, at that point you're better off getting a sledgehammer made of magma.

A 1 use/day fire shield item, lets say bracers, would cost, I think, 10080gp, which could potentially be rounded down to 10000, would take a standard action to use, and would last 7 rounds dealing 1d6+7 damage to anyone who hits you with a melee weapon without reach, and granting the effects of improved evasion against either fire or cold based damage. given the theme it would probably only support the warm version, which deals fire damage and protects against cold damage.

command word = SL * CL * 1800
uses per day = cost / (5 / charges)
fire shield= minimum 4th level, minimum 7th level caster
charges = 1
SL * CL * 1800 / (5 / charges) = gp
4 * 7 * 1800 / (5 / 1) = 4 * 12600 / 5 = 4 * 2520 = 10080gp

They don;t really have rules on how to address spell completion or spell trigger items with charges per day, but I think that there is a discount for an item that only a specific class can use...

Shield spell is generally a better target for overpowered items than mage armour. It is more expensive, but stacks much more readily, cannot be cast on others, and the item it doesn't stack with uses up one of your hand slots...

Oh god...

I am changing up my armblade to make it a warhammer made of magma...

It will be glorious.

+1 Flaming Burst ArmWarhammer...
If I can add Flaming, and Flaming burst, and they count as simmular, I can give it TWICE THE FIRE.

That may be difficult, as flaming burst already includes flaming. 10000gp is a bit mor ethan a +2 weapon, +1 ab is worth about +2 damage, so about 7 points of damage. So... lets say a +1 hammer with the ability to set double-strength fire to people and an extra multiplier to coup-de-grace damage on account of stuffing magma in their face.

Quote from: SRD
Catching On Fire

Characters exposed to burning oil, bonfires, and noninstantaneous magic fires might find their clothes, hair, or equipment on fire. Spells with an instantaneous duration don’t normally set a character on fire, since the heat and flame from these come and go in a flash.

Characters at risk of catching fire are allowed a DC 15 Reflex save to avoid this fate. If a character’s clothes or hair catch fire, he takes 1d6 points of damage immediately. In each subsequent round, the burning character must make another Reflex saving throw. Failure means he takes another 1d6 points of damage that round. Success means that the fire has gone out. (That is, once he succeeds on his saving throw, he’s no longer on fire.)

A character on fire may automatically extinguish the flames by jumping into enough water to douse himself. If no body of water is at hand, rolling on the ground or smothering the fire with cloaks or the like permits the character another save with a +4 bonus.

Those unlucky enough to have their clothes or equipment catch fire must make DC 15 Reflex saves for each item. Flammable items that fail take the same amount of damage as the character.

Lava Effects

Lava or magma deals 2d6 points of damage per round of exposure, except in the case of total immersion (such as when a character falls into the crater of an active volcano), which deals 20d6 points of damage per round.

Damage from magma continues for 1d3 rounds after exposure ceases, but this additional damage is only half of that dealt during actual contact (that is, 1d6 or 10d6 points per round).

An immunity or resistance to fire serves as an immunity to lava or magma. However, a creature immune to fire might still drown if completely immersed in lava.

Hmmm, 2d6+1d6 for 1d3 rounds would be a bit much, probably close to +3 all by itself. And the man doesn't want you making magic weapons that aren't at least +1. But you could make a pure lava effect weapon, and that would probably be about right for the price, but don't expect to be able to enchant it normally, lava as a special material would be bound to have some serious enchanting complications... you could consider removing the base damage from the weapon, and having it all lava. Just making it 1d6 fire for 1d3 rounds might work... I suspect that specific magic weapons and armour an not supposed to be upgradeable anyway... But I am just mumbling now...

Hmm

Possibly have it made of mostly molten metal, fused to my arm, kept molten by magma.. Tone it down to 1d6 base, 2d6 Magma...Only has the constant effect on Criticals... Toggle the ability, it could restore to d10...

So basically, either+1, D10+1 damage, x3 crit
                               Or,+1, d6+2d6"Magma" ,x3 crit+1d6 for 1d3 rounds...

And the original armblade was basically a +1 enchanted weapon, attached to your arm.

You don't see any possible adverse effects transpiring from carrying magma within arm's reach of you at all times. None?
