I can't seem to train my Dragon into a war dragon at the kennels D:

I've tamed it, and it's fine and all, but when I set the kennels to "train war animal" it just says that he cancels it: no creature.

Oh, and this is 40d btw.


Edit: Oh, and yes, I do have the dungeon master.

You must've forgotten to add ''[Trainable]'' to the raw file.

You can only train war -dogs-. You can -tame- dragons if you've a dungeon master but without tinkering in the raws you ca'n't make them into war animals.

The wiki led me to believe you can tame elephants and other beasts as well.

The wiki and my horde of war animals of various species (including a bunch of apes, Elepehants and Giant Tigers/Lions/Eagles) which were definitely trained at the Kennel after being purchased tame from the elven caravan beg to differ.

Not that this helps with the OP's question, but I felt like pointing that out.

Nop. Completely vanilla (almost, the only raw modification I use is adding [SHELL] to hooves and horn to keep moody dorfs from insanity on maps without turtle).

i have a fort with a war dragon.

It requires you to edit the raws, in df2010 the raws are copied into the save folder, so edit them here, add [trainable] and change the tag [pet exotic] to [pet] i think. theres another thread on it..http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=55453.msg1194762#msg1194762

you can leave out the pet exotic bit if you have a dungeon master, but ive never seen one in this version.

In general you can train alot of animals. ive trained war: elephants, cougars, cheetas, tigers, gorillas etc. Id like to be able to tame and train the mounts of invaders but i dont think this is possible as they are classed as invaders.

OP seems a bit confused on what the tags mean. 

Taming requires the PET or PET_EXOTIC tags.  This lets you get a tame animal from an otherwise hostile critter.  All purchased animals are tame already.

Training to war/hunting animals requires the TRAINABLE, TRAINABLE_WAR, or TRAINABLE_HUNTING tag.  In 40d, only dogs had this.  In 31, you can do it on elephants, big cats, gorillas, and a few others.  Dragons don't have this tag in either version so you can't make a war dragon without mods.
