Tunneling Elves/Humans?
« on: June 06, 2010, 07:07:56 am »

Has anyone here experimented with giving Plains/Forest entities the ability to build tunnels?
With the new cavern layers, not to mention the ability to give extra z levels underground, I would think that tunnels were entirely possible. The trouble is, in practice, this does not seem to be the case. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean here, by copying the stuff from the dwarf civ and modifying a few bits to make them named right, humans work fine as a playable race and can mine to their hearts content. Do you mean making them tunnel on their own during worldgen?

thaat's right. Tunnel roads. They can be made through plains areas now, since that happens for tunnels that start in the mountains. The difficulty is for tunnels to start in the plains. They wont.

I think tunnels start in mountain biomes only.
Also the new cavern system breaks tunnels BIG TIME (they often do not reach surface).

Yeah, they're broken, but it's awesome to have a perfectly flat plain, under which you have a tunnel that autoreveals the first cavern for you.

It was my understanding that tunnels were taken out entirely for DF2010 due to problems with caverns.

So they are humanitarians.
