Hospital (no this is not a complaint thread)
« on: June 05, 2010, 12:21:16 pm »

I've been paving the flours of my hospital with green blocks and make sure that the doors are green glass portals. It makes me feel like everything is all clean and hygenic. Plus the injured can't see the vomit because it blends into the ground.

So I was wondering, does anyone else do anything special with their hospital?

I enclose all the beds, so the patients can't see each other or the operating table.  :P

Just hearing the screaming does leave more to the immagination, heheh.

I made a channel in my latest hospital, as an immaginary waste cistern.

Yeah I like to put drains in the floors and rig a sprinkler system in case there is a mess that needs cleaning up.  ;)

My last hospital had two stories: a ground floor where beds, storage, tables etc. were, and an upper gallery level, from which I could build and subsequently collapse constructed floors. The idea was to wound dwarves who were stuck in bed as they tried to rest off injuries that refused to properly heal, and reset the whole injury-healing cycle. That and I like dropping things on sitting targets.

It didn't work, but at least I got to bonk some dudes.

I pave the floor with marble/chalk to have it white, and in the middle stretching about halfway to the walls, a cross paved in bauxite/kaolinite blocks, so people know its the hospital.

I put a well in mine. And place it near the well room that doubles as my meeting room - so they can all appreciate their good health.

Magma, to save resources.

What's more dwarfy? Instantly killing your wounded, or spending months painstakingly stitching them back together then letting them walk around the fortress on crutches with more bandages on them than the mummy?

I rest my case.

I usually have a gallery of patient's beds, side rooms for medical supplies, another side room for prepared food and a well, another little cluster of rooms containing traction benches and tables for operations, an apartment or two for my medical staff, and a bucket-filled pool for washing blood off of everyone.

Last time? I built the hospital before the gatehouse and goblins got into it, where all the civilians were partying down around the well. It was hell, but since they were goblin hammerers, the hospital actually got some use while the attackers were tied up trying to kill my hasty miner's militia.

Between the refuse stockpile and the graveyard, usually.
It normally resembles, well, a big room full of beds and gore.

I'de like to see Hook/axe hand attachments, peg legs, wooden eyes and other prosthetic replacement parts to be installed from a hospital.
