EDIT: Just found out my caravan was interrupted. It was an elf female with two settlements. I smell blood and elf skin socks.

LOL. Just pretend the folks playing elves as dwarves in disguise. FYI, more densely populated areas have more resource caches.

If I zoomed out with the world map centered on my settlement, there are three other seemingly inactive settlements. Hopefully I can get my speardwarves assembled soon so I'd get income from attacking as well, aside from gathering resources using caravans.

This is because the game's admin, I assume, who rules as the "king" of Illyriad(the guy who sends you stuff during the tutorial), is an... elf .
But the way he challenges people to question his elfin castle is quite dwarfy.

Anyway, I'm curious about what you guys have been building. My current priorities (from highest to lowest):
1. Upgrade my Market Place to level 3 so I can employ more caravans and research Improved Loading.
2. Upgrade Library to level 3.
3. Build Spearmaker so I can start producing Spears (Spearmanship being researched).
4. Research Tanning and upgrade Common Ground to level 1 and build Tanner shop so I can start producing Leather Armours.

King Sigurd of Illyriad. Located at -3,-3. I'm assuming that's the admin player, since it's got a gigantic metropolis under new player protection. There's a human metropolis a little distance away, though.

For me, I'm trying to upgrade my Consulate and Marketplace to Level 5, to research Finesse(alliance creation) and Bartering(so I can collect gold piles. Got one ONE TILE AWAY, and another not far, but adjacent to an Orc settlement), respectively. Upgraded Paddock so I can build more caravans - those resource piles are MINE. Also trying to get my resource buildings upgraded.

Oh, that King. Apparently, the developers have their own alliance called Council of Illyrian.

What do you need the gold for? Do you plan to lower tax rate and upgrade your resources building and closing the gold deficit by gathering them off the world map?

Essentially, yes. Besides, according to guys on the forum, whose logic I agree with, you don't really need a lot of gold in the beginning, so lowering your tax rate speeds up resource production for a faster build-up.
