I agree, n9103. Something like "Slaves to Armok" (ticker: StA) would be suitable. I don't even have an embassy or whatever building you need to join an alliance a consult, yet. But this is something we need to plan ahead. Humans are best suited as a diplomat, because their diplomacy units are the best and they have diplomacy bonus in an alliance. Not exactly sure how it works, but worth pointing out, as Akura started as human.  :P

Slaves to Armok sounds cool for me.

I'm Deon Boatmurderd in the southwest, "Plump Helmet Town".

Fine. But it's going to be a while to get that far. I've pretty much drained my resources upgrading my resource generation, and I was planning on researching Barter, but it's going take a while to get the tech points(and probably longer to upgrade the market) to research it. And there's also the problem of building/upgrading the Consulate and researching Finesse. So, unless someone drops a crapton of resources on me, and isn't expecting much back, it'll be sometime tomorrow at the least.

Oh, I suppose I could come up with suitable backstory explaining why I, a human, would create an alliance with dwarfy ideals. A suitably dwarfy backstory 8).

Anduin, south (Correction, north), started right next to an orc town.

Yep, "Slaves to Armok" is the name of our guild in Godville.

Why did everyone choose SW as starting location? Just curious.

My caravan returned with 200 woods, w00t! Sending it out again to gather 200 clay, which I desperately need.

Hah, I named my starter town "Plump Helmet" too. Still going through the tutorial. It has me upgrading my resource sites at the moment.

Slaves to Armok sounds good to me.

Finally finished the tutorial. I ignored it for a while by upgrading my library and farms (big mistake). Don't bother with farms at this stage. We have enough food stock to last for a while. Just focus on woods and clay. On a side note, found 1,400 units of clay on the world map. Too bad I only have one caravan harvesting at 200 units per hour.  :-[

Looks interesting, I'll give it a try.

I feel traitorous, so I choose tp play with elves. City's name is Forest Retreat until I find a decent elvish (DFish) name.

I started SW because that was where the majority of those that had already joined posted as being.
With travel times, a centralized group is a requirement to successful inter-player trades and cooperation.

That leaves me isolated in SE, then. But worry not, this has nothing to do with lack of strategy. This is double envelopment! I will deploy my yet-to-be-created 1st Speardwarves Division to plunder any Elven towns in between us!

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Oh damn, I just chased off someone's caravan from a clay pit. Oops.
