Can I be Novice Cheese Maker?  8)

my military is...happening? I've stopped soldier production, and have  been focusing on infrastructure so I can pump out the axmen.
of course, this means my valuable defense army is not growing, and losing 14 of them certainly did not make my city any better defended :(

Sigh I just can't get a break...
I never can find any food on the field, my Farms never produce enough to supply me, All the resources around me are getting eaten up by those around me... GAH...

I tend to keep my food production up. If ya like, I can send you 1k food, though it take a while to get there. Probably a day or something like that.

Also, to comment on the title discussion, we could use them to indicate who specializes in what. Like "Librarian*" produces tons of books to trade to our alliance mates to help research. So they would concetrate on library* and book binder upgrades. Another might focus on leather armour, another on horses, and so on. The advanced goods are quite easy to ship in numbers...though the more advanced ones require a lot of upgrading to the trading post. Since it costs quite a lot of resources to build the advanced goods faster, we could just have cetain people specialize in them, so when you need a ton of goods, you know who to ask.

*I know they are spelled wrong, dont bother.

While this sounds like a good idea, in practice, it may be difficult to implement. The thing is, not all of us are located close to each others and can respond to delivery requests quickly. Besides, by the time we get multiple settlements (we'll get there!), we can specialise each settlement, which is easier to manage since they're all under our control and located close to each others.

What if we list down the 'profession' each of us wants to have. Note that this is for fun, doesn't depict any specific role or rank within the alliance. As we grow in number of population, we would 'rank up'. What about the following 'rank system':
0-100 population: Dabbling
101-200: Novice
201-300: Adequate
301-400: Competent

(...and so on until...)

1501-1600: Legendary

Since I'd like to claim the title Elf Skin Tanner (May I?  :D) and currently I have 200-ish population, I would be have the title "Novice Elf Skin Tanner". I'm sure by the time we reach Legendary, we would have 2-3 settlements, justifying the title.

Also, to make it easier to organise the ranks, what if each member is given the authority to alter his to 'title' (and only his, not other members'). So Akura does not have to do all the hard work. Would it be possible?

Probably not, unless that's what the "Superuser" ability is for, but even then I'm pretty sure that would mean someone could do it for everyone. And for everyone to have a custom title, I'd have to do it for every single person.

Also, someone named Supremus mailed me asking to join after his caravan suicided on my army protecting mine. Should I tell him it's a closed alliance?

I guess as long as each member doesn't mess up with other members' titles, it should be alright. There is no reason to do it anyway. Unless you'd like to pull a prank and change someone's rank without his consent.

Or another idea:
To lessen your workload, nominate a representative for each region (i.e. SW, SE, South Central). These representatives will be responsible to change and update the titles of members within their region, including themselves.

Supremus is already in Weald. Did he mention why he wanted to join ours?

The bigger question: Should we recruit non-Bay12ers? We do want to grow bigger and we can't do it with this number of players. At the same time, can we trust them?

I'm pretty divided in this. Let's see what the other folks think about it.

In the meantime, just tell Supremus that StA is currently a closed alliance, but considering going open?

G'day,

I'm considering joining a new alliance.

What can you tell me about yours? How active are you?

How much co-operation is there between members?

What are your goals.

I'm at -20 -314.

Supremus
Seems like he's looking for a bit too much information for me to be comfortable about it. Spy maybe?

Possibly.

He has proper capitalisation, spelling and structure in his writing, showing he's not some naive 12-year old casually playing the game (no offense to those who don't care about their spelling, just a quick observation). Weald Society, while having a smaller amount of members, was established earlier, looks more organised thanks to some introduction paragraph on the alliance page, and has a supposedly helpful leader (at least in the official forum). If I were him, why would I be attracted to StA?

Is there a large presence of Weald members near you? If not, it's less likely he's a spy. I wouldn't waste time spying on targets I cannot conquer. What do you think?

EDIT: How come the alliance was formed in April, but the leader (Duke Felurea or something) only has 393 pop???

Change of leadership, perhaps?

For the most part, there isn't a lot of their towns nearby, except tylerad, notable for being their "Apostle of War". They've got a lot of people in the -200,-100 area, though.

Alright, it is unlikely that he is a spy then. So, going back to the question of staying closed or going open...

What's your opinion on this?

Well, we aren't full established yet, and I'm not sure how many of us have even a moderately functional military.

I'd say closed for now, but I'd listen to the others' opinions as well.

Should we recruit non-Bay12ers?

I propose either of two choices:

1) No.

2) If people ask to join we don't accept immediately. Instead we explain that we're the bay12 gaming group and ask them who they are, and why they want to join. If after they understand that we're not a group of randoms they're able to answer why they want to join and they still do, then we let them in. Basically, allow people to join if they coming looking for us...but set a bar that they have to get over.

We do want to grow bigger

We're a relatively large guild in terms of numbers. Now we just need to consolidate and grow. Simply having more bodies won't benefit us as much as developing what we have and drowning people in magma.

Personally I think more numbers, while having less strength will just draw the attentions of the large AND powerful, possibly starting a war we cannot win.  Thus I'm against more people from outside bay 12 joining.

I demand that we introduce non-B12ers to the ways of DF, if we ultimately decide to bring them in.

Link them to http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/index.html and then do

But, if recruits need standards, that means we will have to meet those standards too.  >.>

I'm leaning toward no, but I've no clue what our rolling goal is.
