Tidying up item sorting a bit
« on: June 03, 2010, 01:54:26 pm »

Hello,
Could'nt find this by searching either "sort" "sorting", "quality" or "item" (wonder why?...), so here it is.

In terms of item lists, we can expand item lists, or have a weird material/distance sort.How about cleaning this up a bit - material only - distance only, and why not  by quality too?(i mean other than using different stockpiles and having the distance sort do it).

For example I may want a masterwork mechanism for this trap. Or i may want a crappy mechanist to link this lever. i absolutely positively dont care what it is made of. Or am i the only one who has these issues?

If there was already a thread five years ago about this, if there is an obvious way of doing this or if you are just feeling a "topic nazi" mood please accept my apologies and feel free to direct me to the nearest magma pool's springboard 8)

Not sure what you mean. Like combining the two lists so you don't have to switch between the abstracted and detailed versions?

I think what he means is that you should be able to select by which property items are stacked by when building furniture. Like when you are building a door, they are stacked by material by default and then you can expand the list so that it shows quality as well. He'd like to have more stacking options, so that you could also stack them by quality. Like this:
Code: [Select]
Item            Dist   Num                      Item                    Dist   Num
Bauxite doors   12     0/10                     Masterful doors         10     0/2
Granite doors    8     0/26   change stacking   Exceptional doors        8     0/6
Gabbro doors    10     0/5     ------------>    Superior quality doors   8     0/28
Basalt doors     8     0/16                     Finely-crafted doors     8     0/21
Expanded list would still be a separate option. Don't think too much about those numbers, this is just an example.

Mechanism is not a very good example, because they don't stack at all currently. When placing mechanisms, the listing always shows both material and quality, like expanded list of furniture does.

Actually, SQL-like filters on all the places we're presented with lists of objects would be insanely awesome. I'm 100% in favor of this.
