"Histories of..." tagline
« on: June 03, 2010, 06:44:00 am »

The main title screen has a tagline, in my current game it reads: 'Histories of Jealousy and Enterprise.' It seems to change every time I start dwarf fortress. I just restarted and now it reads 'Histories of Avarice and Industry.' Restarted again, and got 'Histories of Greed and Labor.' There's a definite theme pattern to them.

Is this just fluff, or does it pertain to some sort of plusses/minuses for the session? Since it happens before entering a world, it doesn't relate to the world itself, but it could be modifiers, or encounter table type stuff. Or just fluff.

It's randomly generated from a string dump. Thusly, fluff, I guess.

The first word is one of the 7 deadly sins. The second word is a synonym of stubbornness. It sums up dwarves nicely (though a synonym for "mind-bogglingly stupid" would work as well). It's just fluff.

Enterprise, industry and labour are synonyms of stubbornness?

Time to update the wiki I guess. They're work themed, not stubbornness themed.

New question! If I were to remove elves [INTELLIGENT] tag in the raws, would it work?

Pig tail socks are a vice.

That would be as deadly to the wielder as to anyone else!  You'd sever your own arm at the first swing!  It's perfect!

Histories of clowns and fun.

...if you're lucky.  But then again, even dwarves need to visit the circus once in a while.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

Histories of dwarf and dwarves.
Histories of donkey and microcline?

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.
