just started playing this, longest survive 3 days so far, Are there any good basic strategies?

I holed out in a subway in the shopping district.


In the generator room is the only civilian that is alive in the whole district, the above ground is full of zombies.
I recruit them every so often and travel to the green district near by with the police station (3-3) and we loot what supply drops we can find.
Those piles of loot are our only supplies and we havn't even dented the food reserves.
To the north the iron gates are fortified with large fortifications due to the recent influx of zombie hordes in the subway, they should dissipate in a few days but if it gets worse we are going to have to seal the gates.
After counting, between the two of us who both have light eater maxed now we will survive for 3 months on the army rations we got (including spoiled status) and after that about 5 days off groceries. we have enough ammo and guns to shoot the whole shopping district full of zombies and loot any remaining supply drops which when I go out to the top building every so often to grab some wood for construction from neaby stores or some medkits I hear a few but don't care to waste my time running after them.

Well, I found somthing new in the subway. A Subway Worker Card was just abandoned on the tracks, and it is an equipable item, but I cannot discover the reason for it.

Thanks to new spawn rules, I spawned in a sewer maintenence building with the heavily baricaded iron door plenty of shovels, 2 flashlights, and a bag of groceries. Woo.

Welp, downloaded the new version for several hours and got to 98%....then the connection was reset. Wee....
