So I'm currently a black guy running for my life. I had an ally, but he's gone now. I can't seem to find any stores, though.

I'm currently a girl with kung-fu skills, killing undead left and right.

Course, I'm avoiding the big though ones.

OH GOD THE SHOPPING DISTRICT IS GONE. The game claims to have sent National Guards to help, but I haven't seen any. And all I have for defense is a hunting rifle. Also, out of food.

Kung-fu girl died. 3 zombies with 3-red-bars each jumped at her. It was nice having agility 3, but I guess that doesn't make you all powerful.

Shift+K shows all controls and you can change them.

By default, Shift-S is to save and Shift-Q is to quit without saving. Shift-L is to load.

As I said, I find "firearms" to be the most useful skill.

Three of my best guys have died. Right now I am Robert Ramirez, who managed to live to the third day so far. He found a weapon shop with twenty-some survivors holed up inside. It's a pretty safe place, but in my hunts I haven't found any food save what others have on them.

I'm on day 9 with 3 agility and a point in strength.  I can kill master zombies barehanded.  I have a safehouse with about 10 guns, 6 medicine, 5 groceries and 20 wood just in case the zombies attack my shelf barricade (they never do).  The national guard outnumbers zombies in this district and there is a grocery store across the street.  My biggest concern right now is that the other survivors find the grocery store and steal all my foods.  But they usually starve to death first  .  And I haven't savescummed yet.  It takes about 6 minutes to calculate previous moves if I go to another district.

Most zombies have a speed of .66.  That means that they miss every third move.  So move back and forth a space from them until they move twice in a row, moving next to you on the second move.  Attack them then move away.  Repeat.
A few zombies have a speed of .50.  That means they miss every other move.  If you can't figure out how to kite them, I pity you.

How do I open a refridgerator or cabinet? Walking into it does nothing except say blocked.

You can't open them, they are already emptied (ransacking happens fast).  If they aren't empty, you will see the groceries on them and can pick up said groceries by moving into them if you have an empty inventory spot.  What you can do is use [p] to push them as an impromptu barricade.  They are quite strong, so this works quite well.

Man, if you can get an outpost going it can be quite fun to get things from the surrounding area and refugees(for fun) to keep it going...
