If the guy who invented spiderman wants to change spider man's race, then more power to him. It'd be a cool and refreshing change.

If someone wants to make a satire/parody of spiderman with a black titular lead, fine as long as it's not offensive to blacks.

Otherwise, don't change what isn't yours.

It's like how they put all the xmen in stupid generic black jumpsuits instead of letting them rock their mega sweet 80s superhero costumes.

Or how they made GI Joe generic military instead of wacky and colorful and "america f- yeah"

Black Peter Parker just breaks suspension of disbelief. Same thing if you cast a bald guy, or a fat guy, or a guy with scars, or a guy with a glass eye, or a bearded guy... you get my drift. We all know how he's supposed to look, and if the actor looks too different it's jarring and you can't really get into the movie because it keeps bothering you. Tobey Maguire looked the part, so IMO he was a good casting choice.

The iconic heroes have generally done a good job of not stepping on eachother's thematic toes so far (Batman is all about morality issues, Superman is all about fitting in, Spiderman is all about the struggles of the working class, X-Men is about racial prejudice).
I agree about the rest of your examples, but how was Spiderman ever about "the struggles of the working class"? It's an escapist fantasy about a geek who finds out he's special and gets a hot girlfriend.

I wouldn't call that racist, so much as expecting a certain appearance to a character, and being shocked when it's somebody else.
I agree; unless they make a reboot, Tobey should be cast as Spidey. Spider-Man in that adaptation/series is white, and making him black from one movie to another would be... too much, really. Just changing the actor would be balancing on the edge, especially if Tobey is available.

I have no problem with a new adaptation having a black guy (the new racial conflicts/drama would just make it more interesting) as Peter however, even if I understand how and why it might upset devoted fans. Especially if it were done badly (as in ghetto/gangsta/hip hopster stereotype black). I know for sure that I would be grumpy if they remade Firefly and made Jayne a stereotype Big Angry Black Man.

The new film is a reboot, but it's still Peter Parker. They're basically doing Spiderman 1 again because they realised that Spiderman 3 irreversibly ruined the entire franchise.

Probably three reasons: One, a Spiderman 4 would do terrible after so many were disappointed with 3, Two, starting the franchise over means more movies means more money, and Three, they want to redo everything Darker and Edgier after Dark Knight.

So what you are saying, they want EVERYTHING darker? That might explain it.

The studios want a white Spidey; going by the article in the OP it's only some assorted folk on the internet who want the racial doors opened :P

I don't know if the Derrick Comedy guy even has the chops for this, anyways. They've been using experienced actors (e.g. Norton, Bale, Downey) for the lead roles in superhero movies lately, much to their benefit.

EDIT: Out of the five other candidates they provided, I would probably put my support behind Josh Hutcherson, simply because he has the most experience. If I was directing, though, I would have to actually see auditions to decide.

That, or we could always call him Urkel.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After successfully nabbing a villain/criminal:

"Hehehehehe, Did I do that?"

Heh, looking at that, I can only think of this:

Maybe spider-man is a Time Lord and he goes thru a regeneration!

I guess an enlightened attitude for you guys should be "I disapprove of who you recast, but I will defend to the death your right to recast it."

I say they have no right to recast.  Whoever is doing the recasting should be dipped in magma.
