He could keep Parkers nerdiness. Some racist kids make fun of him for being a brown recluse. He takes the name as a a dig at them.

This sucks! Everyone knows black people can only develop lightning based powers!

When it comes to re-imagining superheroes there's two things that I think should never be changed. Sexuality and gender. Like, how the new Batgirl is a lesbian. What? Why would you make her a lesbian? Did Batman go around boning girls all the time? Did Batgirl go around boning men? Why does her sexual preferences suddenly need to be addressed? It was a non-issue before and the kids aren't going to care what Batgirl does in her off time until puberty, and even then, there's an internet for that.

These days everything is so filled with smut. Superheroes used to be asexual, and they had children the normal way: get married, buy a house, and have three warm meals a day.

I hated the way they adamantly insisted it was part of the larger animated DCU.

Are we thinking of the same show? Black dude, purple cape, hovering trash can thing? His white friend went all Batman with gadgets to help him? Because I loved that show.

That, or we could always call him Urkel.
