Yeah, Toady also left a note on one of the creatures saying that each size unit was equal to approximately 1 gram that the creature weighed.

Yeah, it's that.  The human body has a density roughly equivalent to that of water (which is why we float), and one cubic centimetre of water weighs one gram.

Fish would probably have a similar density, but birds would be lighter.
