Then we'd best do it now before you get the ballista set up. :o

Adwarf. Stop trying to destroy the fortress. Just patrol or something.

Garul, having been up for some time, will eat at the table, planning on doing so from now on, before catching some sleep.

After he awakens mid-day, Garul will take one of the freshly made doors, and set it up as part of the siege doors for the perimeter, linking it up alongside the other, to open up and out, like an upside-down drawbridge. This will have a snap-shut release mechanism, which he will in the future set up to where it can be released from the control room, or from a gatehouse.

Durring the night, Garul will watch and guard from the walltop, after closing the gate, keeping as vigilant as possible.

Also, Garul will have mentioned that the gates will be closed at night, to reduce the risk of night-time attacks, as precaution, and recommending that people be within the compound by that time.

Shifts

Shift 1
8 hours: eat at table, and sleep.

Shift 2
8 hours: finish siege doors, opening them.

Shift 3
8 hours: Guard duty, with siege doors closed after every one is withing the compound, opening the gates at sunrise

It will be standard actions daily, for Garul to close the gates at night, and open them in the morning, at the start and end of 3rd shift, if acceptable to you, Hastur.

This is Dwarf Fortress! If we can chuck magma at innocent wildlife, we can do ANYTHING!

It was at this point that I realised that dwarves are actually the essence of chaos. What else can make perpetual motion machines, recursive statues with more building materials than the average tower and has such a short attention span that a damn fine chair can off-set the death of their entire family.

Day 40...

Kogs checks the wounded, they are healing adequatly, except for Urist. he is bedridden and fades in and out of conciousness. He complains of chills while having a fever, he does not sweat, and his eyes look a bit yellowish while his irises look a lighter shade. His Condition has fallen precipitously. He has trouble speaking.
Thereafter, Kogs goes out to bring in the puma. it is trapped in a tiny cage, for its size, and its cage is surrounded by a zombie lobster and a skeletal fish. The puma Lashes out at them but neither can get in or out. Kogs comes back with a knobbed stick and drags the puma into the fortress from a safe distance. Kogs drags it along the ground and it catches on a rock, nearly tipping the cage over and rattling the locking mechanism, but he makes it into the storeroom with the live puma, it is a little skinny, and eats whatever scraps are thrown to it by Kogs as he attempts to tame it.  The hours pass by and Kog intuits that the animal is beggining to warm up to him but it would be fool hearty to release it yet.
Kogs finishes the day dragging his bedding and supplies to the basement where he sleeps and eats, admiring the fine table. (+mood -tired)

Nirur makes 4 stone doors yeah! then 6 blocks yeah! (-10 stone)

Cheddarius works in the fields, there is a cluster of withered crops near the tower, how odd. There must be some cause. He plants units of pig tails (+4 planted pig tails, +2 stone tables, -2 rock) He the ngoes on to work long, carefully creating 2 more rock tables, he goes easy on himself and later seems to reap the rewards, because once he hits the bed after eating, he feels much much better, hardly sore at all. He thinks hes back into shape, full range of motion, and he even tests his bruises and arm with a one handed pushup or two. (-7 planted plant units)  During the communal dinner Everyone enjoys their meals sitting around the 8 way table. When Hrodegr Bursts in. He lowers his head through the basement hatch and yells "What is going on down here? Tha Field is witherin' before my very eyes up there! Thar is bad stuff goin on in these parts! I knew you should've respected the dead and let them lie in peice! I bet its that Blasphemous table ye made out of yer very brothers still warm bones! It is Cursed I tells ya! and I'll have no part of it! Enjoy your grisly feast you ghouls! That murky swamp water is messing with yer heads Is what im thinkin. It is plainly feeding on the life-force out there or somesuch. Bad things will come of this!"

Garul enjoys a hearty breakfast at THE TABLE. it is quite admirable work, he goes on to **INSTALLS 2 DOORS INTO PERIMITER WALL** , and linking them up to "the controll room" (-1 rope -3 mechanism)

Hrodegr works some leather in his workshop, (-2 leather +pairs of Fine Dwarven Leather-High-Boots 160$ each pair), and skips stones from the wall into the swamp.

Adwarf Patrols , he patrolls for 16 hours... His travel takes him all about the immediate area, Finding a nest of subterranean angry carnivorous hornets on the volcano-side. They are far from the fortress though , and should pose no threat, he files the area into memmory and decides to explore the other way instead. he heads north instead, Where he spots a distant  shape in the twilight hours, merely a few minutes from the fortress, he sneaks closer and is surprised to see a wooden cab drawn by a yak. It is accompanied by staff wielding cloaked fuigures. And it heads along the swampside, only a stones throw away. It travels slowly on its wheels, and should reach the fortress on its current course before sunrise...

Moods....

Prepare for Night 40...

Looks like our fortress' nonproductivity was killed... stone dead.

At first I read that as "wooden crab" and was very intrigued. :P

Still, visitors are always interesting.

What did Hrodegr make leather from, the wereskin? What a hypocrite...

Also, it seems like we have a caravan! Everyone make cool stuff!

Cheddarius asks Hrodegr how he can make his plants grow again, then crafts stone mugs for 8 hours.
Cheddarius then spends 8 hours working on fine iron breastplates to armor the populace.
Finally, Cheddarius eats at the new table and sleeps for 8 hours.

I'd love to, but I have more pressing issues. Maybe I can make some while they're here.

8 hours shooing everyone else away from the forge in a strained cheerful manner, then making a large iron cage. NOTHING IS WRONG GUYS HAHA I JUST WANTED A CAGE YOU KNOW?
8 hours caring for Urist and moving his bed into the locked cage. If the bed won't fit just give him some bedding of some sort.
8 hours sleeping and eating.

A perfectly natural desire, I understand completely.

8 hours making 2 matching stone thrones
8 hours engraving the thrones
8 hours sleep and rest

The thrones are for trading. Caravans are good at carrying stone furniture around.

Not the bees! AHHHHHHH Ahgarbulagabah my eyes! my eyes! AHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHhhhurgh!

Night 40...

Outside the fortress gates, a single wooden car( you know, the kind that is like a little wagon that is horse drawn and men with tophats give rides to tourists for money?) drawn by a yak come to a stop outside the fortress gates. It remains there, just outside of good crossbow range. Seated inside is a hooded, cloaked fuigure that looms above the other 3 walking alongside. Her car appeares to be full loaded with missshapen junk, and the 3 walking figures huddle together in the cold during the night, with only a feeble dying fire to keep them warm. By first light the next day the 3 people sleeping in the mud can be indentified as dwarves. The taller fuigure in the car is a womanly haired person the height of a human wearing a bandana and is not obviously armed. She seems to wait.
