As the day wears on, dwarves hurridly run to and fro trying to prepare. The snailmen unload their beast of burden, setting out their wares under the cover of the trading depot. Their Turtle holds perfectly still. while their war alligator rolls happily in the mud. The snailmen fondle the dwarven crafts as they come in bundle by bundle, arguing about the designs.
The lead snailman speaks

So while the we're waiting, who exactly is the broker around here? We might as well begin negotiations. I still plan a full round trip, before winter entombs us eh?

I'd like to fondle your dwarven crafts as they come in bundle by bundle, if you know what I mean.

(you scared away my players chedarius!)

A storm breaks out during the night. Torrents batter the buildings. Only those sleeping underground remain undisturbed by the noise. The traders huddle beneath the trade depot grumbling. They begin to grow impatient as the day goes on.

Day 17...
Ochita uses the day leaisurely, and takes his time bartering and mingling, after much negotiation he completes the trading and adds much needed goods to the fortress community.
Nirur completes 4 stone bedframes from 4 rock, and turns 1 rock into a basic set of stonecrafting tools. Any better tools would require metalworking.

Day 18 approaches...

Ochita Presents the list and the Snailman looks it over. "Ahh. Hmm. Huh. Aha. This is a good start, let us begin negotiations."

The Trader and Ochita Look over each other, They circle each other evaluating for exploits. Ochita is dressed as a peasant -. He is muddy -. No office to negotiate in -. The Snailman has been sampling Urist's complimentary whiskey's ++. The Snailman is persuasive -.

The traders bodyguards glower at the other present dwarves besides Ochita, locking eyes they grunt and spit,, Eral flexes back at them, . They are well armed -. They outnumber -. but Eral is extremely strong and imposing +++ and looks incredibly tough ++.

The snailman trader makes the first offer at a negligible disadvantage. "your crafts are worth about 900$ to me, Yet you want about 4000$ i have eyed your goods, and you have much to offer as well. I could relinquish everything you wanted for say.... 400 units of Whiskey, 20 weeks of plump helmet, your crafts, and make up the difference with the spare 1046$ in coins you have, its not doing you folks any good as is, is it?"

You have 36 weeks of good food. You made 36 weeks of good food in about 2 weeks, not to mention the blasphemous quantities of bad and plain food you have spilling out of every orifice. You can trade all your food except for 2 weeks of good food away and basically be set. I think you should give the dude his plump helmets.
You also have a ludicrous quantity of whiskey. You literally have pools of whiskey on the ground, that is how much you have. I think you should give the guy his whiskey, but demand that he use his own containers, or possibly trade for some more barrels.

I agree with the snailman, but am currently too busy to agree.

8 hours creating a stone stonecrafter's toolkit.
8 hours creating stone bedframes.
8 hours resting/sleeping.

Some may take your offer but I see a flaw in your plan, some of these goods are not worth the price you put on them. 500$ for an iron pickaxe? ive seen higher quality ones sell for around 400 hundred. Anyway during our excvations we have found... riches. We do plan to be a large fortress soon and wouldn't you like a free ride to the top? If you put us on your route then im sure that would will gain large amounts of profits from this. I shall offer you 300 units of our highest quality wiskey, you can have 17.5 weeks of plump helmets with 5 weeks of bloated tubers. We shall sell all of our crafts along with a contract as our main supplyer?

This is just a contentless bump, as I can do little but menace the traders with my cat, Spike Carnagedeath.

I was thinking that the Trading part was a Pause in actual gameplay, and had not voice my thoughts due to having little to trade for...

You take for granted the value of a good pick I think. As dwarves, ironwork must not be that rare, but out here on the surface that iron could have been made into keen weaponry or armor. I do like the way you think though, and I'd be happy to pass by on the way back, but there is nothing free about this "ride to the top" as you say, Because as is, you propose that I trade at a loss. You'd have to add 1000$ coin and 100 more whiskey at minimum to your counteroffer. I feel I've been patient and generous, yet you try to take advantage of my situation. you may think my prices are too high, but each one is based on the value I payed for it based on what its worth out here between my other trading partners, I'd honestly rather be paid in crafts and coin for the pick, otherwise the blendecs will pay me in a thousand lbs of skull totems and tattood hides or some such ridiculous thing. In any case I wont trade at a loss, no matter the promises. If you are hesitant to pay in coin out of pocket then replace it with 200 more whiskey, there are few other goods that catch my eye

Deal, we'll be back around later in the year. i can pick up specific goods from further along my route. Leathers, artwork, Arms, exotic meats and milk, and woven reed cloths and crafts.? I would pay a premium for sturdy iron or steel weaponry and armour if you get the chance.
