Hi,
What is this 'month-end project' mentioned on the DF news page?

Noone really knows. At first, it was the week-end project, but in the past (year? two?) it bacame the month-end one. I think I remember that Toady said that he doesn't want to reveal what it is  yet, possibly to prevent people from being disappointed if he never finishes it. He uses it to take a break from DF development.

The month end project is when he goes on break. Also, sleeping, boozing, and eating.

He is slowly building a sentient AI to replace himself when he is no longer able to continue development.

A gamedev company, I shan't mention, asked him to finish Duke Nukem Forever.

Slaves to Armok III: Dwarves in Space

Wherein the dwarves must protect their space fortress from evil xeno scum. Hull breaches and unguarded airlock levers are a major source of Fun.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

You are missing the obvious. Put xeno elves in an airlock. Seal off your fortress and then expose them to vacuum or a lethal atmosphere. I just hope elves don't come up with a way to survive outside. Major Fun if you forget to seal off your fortress.

Just make sure to have your dwarves remove the elves' rebreathers or HEV/space suits before taking them out of your containment field traps.
