One question, Toady: is there really an infinite number of them, or do they eventually stop?

I'm making them have no choice in the matter, they must go through the traps to reach the snacks.

That's so creepy. A fortress with all of its firepower and siege engines... pointing inwards. The doors and traps are not there to keep outsiders out, but to keep whatever is inside the mountain in!

Given the nature of fantasy stories, having all your defenses pointed inward is usually the most viable method of defense.

Yes, I experienced this a few days ago. I was most upset that it'd wasted all that steel to make a bridge OF DEATH

Ya, just make one corridor/choke and mass ballistias behind fortifications.

Pfft, n00bs... Never played Tower Defense or Matrix Defense on StarCraft before?

my fort is a Four section base

first, before the cavern river, is storage and workspace.

The middle, between the chasm and river is the to be the habitation. The Chasm itself will have ballistas along the entire city side, except for the passages leading deeper in.

The Part between cavern and lava is the deepworks, the foundries, it will be the heavist trapped area.

over the lava will be the true mines. What do you think of my extensive plans for my city? insane or not? of course the entire complex will be trapped along the corriders when I finally get to it, even the non essential passages, this is after the detailing work is complete along the entire edge of my fort.

WE WILL NOT GIVE UP, NOR SHALL WE SURRENDER TO THE FORCES OF EBIL! ALTHOUGH MANY SHALL FALL, WE WILL LIVE ON IN ETERNITY IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF THE DWARVES TO COME TO OUR FORTRESS.

Unless the few straggling survivors flee in terror, weeping into their beards at the carnage they just witnessed

Alright, I give up on getting past them.  It'll take a better player than me, evidently.

I got to the pit, six demons poured out.  They chewed through 22 full-time troops and another 90-odd draftees, all armed with iron or better, without even breaking stride.  Most of their victims died in a single hit.  They completely ignored traps (which I expected) and ballista bolts (which I did not).  My cunning corridors around the barracks filled with doors to slow them down and hidey-holes to shoot out of gave them a refreshing pause to gather their thoughts before they systematically hunted the residents and trashed the fort.

I think I had one wounded on a leg or something.  The only ones that died drowned when the demons trashed the floodgates on my farm.  And when it was all done, there was only about four spaces of digging room behind the pit.  Is there, in fact, a point to getting past it, or is it just a good way to trash your fort when you're done with it?
