Tantrum Spiral cards, hidden in with the usual Chance cards.

Nahh, the tantrum spiral is in with the "FUN" cards.

You draw from them if your happiness gets too low.

Actually, having a Happiness level is a really good mechanic. You could probably use it for a fair number of things. And yeah, Chance should definitely be called Fun.

Wait a minute, I have a project (unfinished at the moment, but that will soon change) form earlier this year that i could work into this!

It was a stencil thing, and one of the bits was a stencil that used words, It was the word FUN with little sentences trailing off of it, done in red on black paper.

I could scan this and shrink it to use as the "Fun" cards!

Also: the front of the package will read "DWARF FORTRESS: The Board Game. Have Fun!"

It'd be Fun for the whole family!

Skip Euros...  Get Toady to pitch it to Fantasy Flight!  Whoot!  ;)

So they can publish the sourcebook with missing pages?

Speaking of the almighty amphibious one, I would totally let him use this game so long as I get a cut of the money.
...

More like you better pay him royalties.

You owe him 30% of your grade, whatever it might be. Plus any and all cash generated from it.

See, I was hoping for something more in the "partnership" range, but then again i have a terribly weak grasp of business and such.

Wait a minute, does that mean he's likely to get about a 30% on my Design 11 exam?

Edit: I'm hoping for a 90%

You have to work in a mechanic that gets players drunk, in the true nature of DF, every time a dwarf dies, you chug :D

Hmmm... That would add a very dwarven theme to it, but like I said, this is for an exam so.... I'm thinking not in school.

I suggest using official TACTICUS rules. But not Libash edition, or that elfish "TowerCaps'r'us" but granite-bound Urist edition from good old days.

I often thought about making a DF board game aswell. I already made a beer brewing economic simulation game (imagine: Transport Tycoon meets beer brewing).

A monopoly styled boardgame kinda seems wrong for a DF game though, especially because it (in contradiction to the real DF) limits the players choices alot.

I'm not going to share my ideas about a DF boardgame yet, because someday I might just make it.

It's really only Monopoly-esque in the way the pieces move.

Other than that I'm going to try to work as many game mechanics as possible.

This looks cool and I would totally play it. Post the rules and such when you finish.

You definitely want to look into the euro games if you are considering board game design.

Have a look here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame and find some of these top listed ones. It will rock your world.

On another note, steve jackson games would be a better fit: no playtesting, and giant loopholes in the poorly explained rules. Yet still enjoyable.

Are you sure you really want to use the Monopoly gameplay model?  Have you ever played any of the better known "Euro" board games?
Base it off of candy land, because spinners are inherently dwarven.

The monopoly board fits a dorf face quite nicely in the middle. Also: It works for how i intend the game to be played.

Also: What sort of "Euro" games? I am intrigued.

Monopoly, despite its popularity, is actually a poorly designed game. Misterstone is speaking of German style games such as Settlers of Catan, which are, in my opinion, far better suited to a Dwarf Fortress-inspired board game.
This article about Settlers of Catan discusses the problems with Monopoly on page 2.

I feel the need to explain this game further, but I am about to go to sleep, and my brain is not functioning.

Tomorrow I will delve further into this.

I suggest Dwarf Cards, with dwarves with various skills and what have you, Nobles will be seperate from this deck of dwarves of course, it would just help you keep track of your dwarves better then the late game everyone has 50 dwarf tokens on the board and noone remembers which ones do what.(because of the beer)

I suggest the Pantshelm edition.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Right, any game like this, Agricola, etc. that involve building stuff on a map rather than walking around seem like a good analogue to DF.  Also there's this gmae

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/45315/dungeon-lords

which I have never played.  ANyway, I'm not a boardgame expert, since my experience is limited to just a few games (including the ones I listed) which are also the most popular games out there.
