DF BOARD GAME
« on: June 01, 2010, 03:48:12 pm »

Yes, a Dwarf Fortress board game, and it will be just as awesome as the concept sounds.

And it gets better; I’m actually doing this for a school project.

And, on an unrelated note, even better! I just made a duct tape vest for the same class!

Take a moment to bask in the glory of my situation, and the immense potential of this project.

Seriously, take a moment, sit back, let all of that sink in.

Ok, now that your back let me fill you in on this game.

This is meant for 2-4 players, preferably ones that have played DF before, the board is square, with each players spot along each side.

The main game board is kind of like a monopoly board, in that you go around and around and around, with each square representing an event, an opportunity to gather resources, or an opportunity to build. Each side has 4 rows of 20 squares, each representing a different Z level. The different Z levels can be accessed by either the corner pieces or the middle of each side.

Each player sets up his buildings on the appropriate Z level of their spot, which is also where they keep there dorfs and resources.

You get dorfs every go round in a wave of migrants (you roll 1d20 and draw form a bag full of little dorf tokens).

Resources are kept as paper currency and are required to do … stuff.

And you need certen dorfs to do that stuff with the resources.

What I’m looking for here is some help with the chance cards, I need allot of them, and my one brain can only do so much.

Base it off of candy land, because spinners are inherently dwarven.

Are you sure you really want to use the Monopoly gameplay model?  Have you ever played any of the better known "Euro" board games?

YOU HAVE DISCOVERED HELL! PREPARE TO DIE MORTAL! (Instant Lose for all players)

Also bear in mind that dwarves have their heads at a perfect height for a good face-kicking.
That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.

You have discovered a volcano. The Fire Imps kill X of your dwarves.

Your dwarves have struck an underground deposit filled with lava. X dwarves were killed by the flood.

The king has arrived!

Theres something i forgot to mention, I was thinking that nobles automatically came after you reached a certain population, then you draw form a pile of potential mandate cards.

Also: Fey moods can, and will happen, and happiness will be a factor.

The monopoly board fits a dorf face quite nicely in the middle. Also: It works for how i intend the game to be played.

Also: What sort of "Euro" games? I am intrigued.

Tantrum Spiral cards, hidden in with the usual Chance cards.

Nahh, the tantrum spiral is in with the "FUN" cards.

You draw from them if your happiness gets too low.

But then again... I may want to hide a few of those amongst the "Event" cards...

Actually, having a Happiness level is a really good mechanic. You could probably use it for a fair number of things. And yeah, Chance should definitely be called Fun.

Speaking of the almighty amphibious one, I would totally let him use this game so long as I get a cut of the money.

More like you better pay him royalties.

You owe him 30% of your grade, whatever it might be. Plus any and all cash generated from it.
