Someone removed the wrong pillar
« on: June 01, 2010, 03:45:18 pm »

Now that's a bottomless pit, Spartan style. I don't understand fully how this happened, but it's apparently a combination of shoddy sewage work, erosion from rain and a recent hurricane.

I would have said it is awesome, except it apparently pulled down a house and the three people in it :\

Geez. According to the article, that's the second sinkhole of that diameter in Guatemala City in three years, and the last one was deeper.

I have to say, that picture looks so fake, I can't help but think somebody was punked.  And if it's not fake, I be running for the hills or a boat.  I mean, it just goes from kinda dark dirt to pitch black.

What do you even do with a hole like that, besides shoot your own YouTube reenactment of 2012?  I hope somebody has a whole lot of buckets and sand handy.

Sinkholes in DF would be awesome!  It would make rain and considering where to put your fort more important.

Looks like the HFS got tired of waiting for us. We need to nuke that place, and fast!

It gave me the impression of those holes made in the Fantastic 4 movie.

You know, in the comments stuff for the CNN article of it, a bunch of people were saying that it looked photoshopped.

Also, I think a few DF players may have commented on there because it sounded like that. Unfortunately nearly all of the comments on there were trolls. No idea if the ones that I thought were maybe DF players were being trollish since I wasn't paying attention to the names.

There's an AFP version of the AP photo I posted, that I think is slightly touched up, they've made the bottom a bit darker than in the AP photo.
Article using AFP version. Note the difference.

People apparently did run for the hills.

I must say that this is one hell of a thorough prank they're pulling of. Are you sure there's no hidden reference to the first of April in these stories?

Did you see those shadows?
No way that can be real.
It's too circular and smooth.
Great texture, but horrible model.

Judging by the behavior of the different materials we can see, it's all too real.

Remember that the bedrock is very deep there, which accounts both for the formation of the sinkhole and the fact that we can only see a deep soil wall in this picture of the tube.
