I've been toying around with creating melodies in LMMS. It's pretty fun, but I am biased towards my own melodies, obviously. SO I shall post them here, and you shall tell me how annoying and crappy they are. Okay?

I cannot figure out how to make it sound different...so just judge the basic melody?

That's more of a sound effect than actual music, it's so short. And it doesn't keep tempo, which by itself isn't a bad thing since you can get a lot of neat effects by messing with the tempo, but there's something jarring about the longest notes, like they're either a little too long or a little too short.

I assume by their titles that the other two works are by other artists, then?

I don't know jack shit about making music, but this is hardly more than a basic theme played with annoying synths, like Dauši Baldrs by Burzum, only worse.

There is a lot that goes into music, but you can make some pretty cool stuff without knowing too much of it. I recommend first learning about meter (4:4 time, half-notes quarter-notes etc.). This way you won't use those weird slightly longer notes (unless you want to). Then probably some scales and chords. This should give a better feel for how different notes go together.

I never took music theory, so I'm sure someone else could give you some better ideas of what you should know, but knowing this should help a bit.

That's too short to even be a melody, actually. If you looped it a few times, it'd be a melody, maybe.

I do have a fair knowledge of music theory, so I could teach you if you pester me about it.

this is the perfect opportunity to plug my one man grindcore band

uncompressed instrumentals

but to be honest it was more of a short term project to see if I could mesh a drum machine on my computer with a guitar recorded on a microphone (a really simple riff ) it didn't work so I figured I'd growl at it call it grindcore and see if anyone was dumb enough to like it. I'd like to learn any tips for drumbeats if anyone has them.
