Being bored and all, I decided to make a topic about a reletively new game, Backyard Monsters. The name is cheesy and all, but it has something going for it, a nonbrowser game that has some pretty good RTS elements to it. Plus, it works on dial-up.
As you can see, I have a defencive layout of towers, booby traps, and blocks. Battles occur in real time(monsters actually attacking and ect). When attacking, you choose where to "fling"(ie drop) your monsters(if its not close to a building), and your monsters control themselves from there. You choose how many monsters and which kinds to fling, and you can do multible flings. Your monsters have preferences, which they then use to choose what kind of buildings to target. All of your monsters are predesigned, for now. Once the game is out of beta it will have a creature designer. Finely, you only have a limited number of monsters at one time(this increases as your base grows, since you build more housing), so just spamming will typically not work . There is also a level system, which prevents you from getting smothered by guys who have been playing for months.
Now for the bad. Its on facebook(sadly, I had to get an account to play it), you can use shiney to get boosts(but shiney costs a lot, and it costs exponentially more as your base grows and you buy upgrades. Plus, you get a ton of free shiney in the begining. In the end, shiney doesnt really effect gameplay too much later on, and the developers have to make money somehow), and the game is still in beta, so its rougn around the edges( but that also means there is a lot of current development).
Oh, did I mention buildings are animated?
Also, I can throw up some more pictures if you guys like.
