Opened the link, all that really sank in was:

In development since 2001

We're currently working towards an alpha release

So what's so interesting about this barreling locomotive of progress?

What is this? An Age Of Empires lookalike?

it is an open source rts that atempts to be historically acurate, they say they estimate the code is 40% complete, and that the art is much more complete. they've got an interesting set of features, but what really catches my eyes is the promise of a powerful editor, and as former modders, i trust them to at least try to keep this promise.

and yes, these guys started out as a AoE modding team, but i don't think the game is more akin to age of empires than any other rts, it just works with the same historical setting, so it ends up having some similarities

I thought it's pretty cool 5 years ago, but now I think I'll sooner play Duke Nukem Forever.

I haven't heard anything about it before. I checked out screenshots section and it looks very nice and "realistic", sure models are little blocky but graphics overall look great. Well at least it looks like its still in development so maybe some day...

it's been in development for a long time, but it's taking it's steps, even if slowly. i'd give it maybe 2 more years in development if they keep this pace: it's completely made by voluntaries

Theres the one screen shot with some soldiers near a temple next to a river, and the temple floor is missing tiles, like it was a ruin.  But it's not a ruin, it's an active building of some sort.. so why make it look like the temple builders were on pot and deliberately left out marble floor tiles and went on lunch break instead?  It doesn't make sense to me to try to make things look older that way when it if it supposed to be accurate, they'd have finished the building.  Certainly the ancients at least swept the floors of their temples.

that's why they were called *ancients*, their stuff was old!"!

if you pointed this little nitpick to the team they'd probably give you a good answer, or take note of it and fix it.

I think this topic deserves a massive bump, 0AD is now well into development, they are currently in Alpha 6, but the game is playable in both singleplayer (admittedly the AI isn't very good) and multiplayer which is fantastically fun to play with friends. It is very much a spiritual successor to Age of Conquerors in my honest opinion

I want to know if DJ did in fact sooner play Duke Nukem Forever.

Hehe, this was worth the necroing

As for 0AD - very interesting indeed and they do show progress, even if slow.
