mass dump in (d)esignations menu
« on: February 06, 2008, 07:20:00 pm »

it would be nice if their was a option in (d)esignations that worked just like forbid except it let you dump all items in a area,

i offten used dump to clear a room of rock without having to clear the entire fort and its a bit tedious going through every stone selecting dump

Good idea  :)

That sure would be much helpful in clearing out stones.

Been suggested before (multiple times?), but that won't stop me from seconding it  :)

Oh, you mean I wasn't just failing to find the option to do this?  And here I thought I was dumb.

Yet again, I second this idea.

In the meantime, there is a relatively simple AutoHotKey macro that will do the same thing. It's listed in the wiki:  http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Macros_and_Keymaps

I'd kinda figured that the quantum stockpiles that allowed infinite amounts of matter to be jammed into a 1x1 space weren't a permanent feature. Same with the atom-smashing bridges... somehow, I'd figured they were to be phased out when/if something like storage silos were to be implemented, most likely after being able the ability to actually stack stuff was implemented.

EDIT: I'd still like to see a mass dump designation though so that I can get rid of the few hundred kobold loinclothes lying around the entrance.

I hope, I really do hope that bridge smashing and rock dumping "bugs" are never taken out. Or at least have a break up stone option...

For this idea - YES.

"Quantum stockpiling" (I really like the name for some reason) should not remain as it is. Instead, when the amount (mass, volume, whatever) of objects stuffed into a single tile goes over a certain amount, the tile is treated as full, and a "constructed" tile of a metamaterial "trash" or the prevailing type of objects in the pile appears, having all the dumped objects as its contents. When the pile is "dismantled", some scattering will occur, so the pile won't reach "critical mass" again.

That way we can still stuff a lot of stuff into a small space, but it will be a lot more realistic, and not infinite.
