Found the issue with the decipede. In the body file you have [TEN_LEG_SEGMENTED] but the creature file has [TEN_LEGS_SEGMENTED] which caused a crash whenever I tried to get it working in arena mode, elf killing time now.

Thanks for the help, Morrigi. I now have the guardian beetle and the decipede working in arena mode, and the steedbeetle registers as having a gender now. It actually has three genders for some reason, female, male and female again. I'll have to look into that.
Next up in my menagerie of buggy delight, some delightful giant cockroaches, methinks.

Bigroaches, after trying them out in arena mode, apparently deadly to adventurers. Maybe I just suck, but a pack of five of them took me out in no time at all.

My first time in adventure mode I took on about the same amount of ice wolves, with a bunch more filtering in midway through, all without a scratch on me. I used that as a frame of reference and think I used the same stats/equipment.
Either way, big cockroaches=friggin' hardcore.

That is a bigass cockroach. Also, my decipedes are kicking instead of biting for some reason, halp D:

Sorry, found that problem with the steedbeetle, you need to change MANDIBLES to MANDIBLE in the decipede raws.

Greetings all. I'm currently working on a butterfly, but have encountered a problem when it comes to attacking. It can't bite. I've given it a proboscis, so biting is simply out of the question. To replace it, however, I thought I'd get creative and give it some kind of spore attack.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how poisons and such work, so help/link to guide would be helpful, thanks.

Here's the link the the DFwiki Syndromes page, which has quite a lot about syndromes (poisons) and breath attacks.

Okay, after thinking about and attempting to take on the syndrome system, here's what I've got.
Code: [Select]
        [USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:BUTTERFLY_SPORES:CREATURE_EXTRACT_TEMPLATE]
                [STATE_NAME:ALL_SOLID:solidified butterfly goo]
                [STATE_ADJ:ALL_SOLID:solidified butterfly goo]
                [STATE_NAME:LIQUID:butterfly goo]
                [STATE_ADJ:LIQUID:butterfly goo]
                [STATE_NAME:GAS:butterfly spores]
                [STATE_ADJ:GAS:butterfly spores]
                [SYNDROME]
                    [SYN_NAME:butterfly laze]
                    [SYN_AFFECTED_CLASS:GENERAL_POISON]
                    [SYN_IMMUNE_CREATURE:BIG_BUTTERFLY:ALL]
                    [SYN_CONTACT]
                    [CE_UNCONSCIOUSNESS:SEV:700:PROB:100]
Ideally, the way I'd like to utilise this is to have it propelled in gaseous form by the wings, ala Mothra. If this is not possible, then having it secreted by the wings and then applied via wingy bitchslap. If this isn't possible either, I'm open to ideas.

Looks pretty good, but you need a time-course in your CE tag.   START:  PEAK:  END:

END is optional, if it is not included the syndrome will never wear off.  START and PEAK I believe are required.  The numbers are in units of game steps, I believe.  So 10 is pretty quick but still a noticiable delay.

[CE_UNCONSCIOUSNESS:SEV:700:PROB:100:START:10:PEAK:100:END:200]

To attach your new material to a breath attack, use one of the following:
[MATERIAL_BREATH_ATTACK:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:BUTTERFLY_SPORES:TRAILING_GAS_FLOW]

or

[MATERIAL_BREATH_ATTACK:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:BUTTERFLY_SPORES:UNDIRECTED_GAS]

or VAPOR versions instead of GAS.

Unfortunately, these breath weapons can't be associated with the butterfly's wings.

[SECRETION:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:BUTTERFLY_SPORES:GAS:BY_CATEGORY:WING:SKIN]

Will make it associated with the butterfly's wings.  I think SKIN is the outermost tissue on the wings, but if the above tag doesn't work it may be because of the SKIN token at the end there.

With any of the above options, they should be included in your creature file AFTER the USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE declaration from the post below.  You should test them all out in turn to see which you like best.

Thanks. I may have to look over the material, because no matter the format, the syndrome doesn't seem to take. I've remedied the butterfly's lack of fighting skills by making it a coward.

If you post the butterfly's body file I'll see if I can figure out what's up with the syndrome.

Quote from: errorlog
BIG_BUTTERFLY:Unrecognized Creature Caste Body Token: 4WINGS
BIG_BUTTERFLY:Unrecognized Creature Caste Body Token: PROBOSCIS

But looking at the creature, I wonder if you have a body_detail plan for 4WINGS and PROBOSCIS.  Do you get error log messages complaining about 0 tissue thickness?

EDIT:  Oops, BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:EXOSKELETON_TISSUE_LAYERS .... so it should probably be CHITIN instead of SKIN on the end of the SECRETION tag....

Sorry about not including the body bits, I'm an idiot.

[BODY:PROBOSCIS]
[BP:PROBOSCIS:mouth:STP][CONTYPE:HEAD][MOUTH][APERTURE][CATEGORY:PROBOSCIS]
[DEFAULT_RELSIZE:200]
I'll change skin to chitin, I probably should have noticed that.

Okay, changed skin to chitin and now it does indeed secrete it, but for some reason the syndrome just doesn't happen.  Any ideas why that might be?

Try to use SYN_INHALED. Contact syndromes currently work through contaminants, and I believe gas doesn't leave contaminants. Actually, you could try to use POWDER or SOLID_POWDER instead of gas as well.
