DLCs rarely, if ever, have any substance.

Now this DLC actually adds something worthwhile to the game.

Just an FYI, it's on sale for $15 shipped from NewEgg. If you like to have the boxed versions, this is a pretty good deal:

This looks incredible. That time period would be incredibly different and wholly awesome to play. It's gone the furthest into the future of any Total War game. They had repeating or bolt action rifles back then, right? I wonder how that'll play out.

I really hope they allow you to play as the foreign powers.

I am very ashamed that I bought it, but it's really fun. It's like the game's suddenly an anime, something along the lines of Afro Samurai or something.

Bought this as well.

First reaction: Oooh, Total War game that came down in price (finally). I suck at them, but JAPAN!

Second reaction: Hmm. Died in campaign three times now. Lets try something different.

Third reaction: I am a god against (normal difficulty, Computer controlled) men! Can't stop playing...

But seriously, this has enthralled me in a way that I haven't been caught by a strategy game in a while. My current favorite tactic is to use lines of gunner ashigaru in hit and run tactics... considering that the majority of the enemy's troops tend to be melee, it's extremely effective. Might have a bit of a cheese factor to it (since I just hit 15 provinces, and the world except my 2 retarded vassals declared war on me) but those 6 star ninja are wrecking my shit, so I need every advantage I can get.

Still suck at naval battles, though. Those are annoying and boring.

They are, at that. It'd be nice if it wasn't so tricky to judge if you'll actually win a boarding action unless you have overwhelmingly superior ships. Also bow koboya run at the drop of a hat.

You know you'll make the CA guys cry if they read that (and at least two people in the office have accounts here) some serious effort goes into making it historically accurate.

I'm pretty sure it was intentional. I'm not sure how sharp katanas really were back then, but when my Yari Ashigaru manages to stab somebody in the neck (with about a litre of blood exploding out) and then cut their head clean off, I feel like I'm watching Kill Bill. And I'm certainly not complaining.
