All things considered, I think Oda is my fave clan power-wise.  Cheaper and more powerful Ashigaru mean you can utterly dominate in the early game and there's no shortage of potential enemies and trade partners.

The Oda always get destroyed in a few turns when I'm not playing as them.

Yeah, 3 enemies at the beginning is a bit much for the AI to handle.

Its a bit of a bitch for humans to handle too. Its doable, but occasionally you'll have all three of your enemies attack you one after the other so it doesn't matter how good you are, they'll just throw themselves on your spears until they break and you've got nothing to hold them back anymore with.

I believe Oda is considered the easiest to win with at legendary difficulty though, simply because of the peasant units.

If you've got the momentum and go after all your enemies in quick succession, you can continue along the coast to set up a chain of coastal provinces bordering only each other and mountains. Can have 5 good ports 5 years into the game and from there dominate in trade.

Oh I do that if I can. Its just i've had some Oda playthroughs where in the first 4 turns my main city was attacked three times. By the third attack i'm pretty sure my spearmen were considering telling me to fight it myself, considering they had killed two entire armys so far.

Its just nuts sometimes.

Umiman, you're right. I have yet to face an enemy without red and black colouring. It makes me so proud of my purple and gold legions. Although I'm currently tied two wins two losses and I doubt that it going to improve any time soon.

Yes, everyone is red and black. It's really dull.

Also, don't do sieges at low level too. You can't win. In sieges, it's about the quality of your troops as you can't swarm the enemy as well compared to the open field. So in sieges, the guys with cannons / matchlock monks / bow monks / etc. will win almost all the time.

My army was entirely Ashigaru (four spearmen, four swordsmen, threearchers, if I remember correctly) but the only reason I won my two battles was the enemy rather foolishly fielded all cavalry armies and expected me to not live through the shock. My archers took the brunt of it and my 3 chevron Spear Ashigaru took care of them handily both times. I also had four units of hired sword Ashigaru, but it turns out that when the enemy deploys a moral dampener retinue against you and charges your army with three Katana Samurai EVERYTHING ROUTS FOREVER INSTANTLY.

So I'm learning.

Yeah more or less. The bane of ashigaru armies are matchlocks and all the super dps units like monks.

I highly recommend getting samurai katana ASAP for that reason.

But then once in awhile you'll meet the jerkwad players who see they're fighting a super low level player and only field super hero units. As in, the hero hero units max levelled etc etc. It takes 200 of your men to kill one of theirs, and their units are immune to morale loss. How can a level 1 or 2 even fight that? There are literally no units available to low level players to deal with units that are immune to morale shocks.

I stopped playing the multiplayer for that very reason. It's that because you can't know what the enemy player is fielding, games are more or less always a crapshoot where you have to hope your army is not outmatched because of selection.

It's still possible to win even if outmatched in selection. I had one one battle with a simple setup, yari ashigaru-bowmen ashigaru-katana samurai kind of thing, and my armies seemed utterly devastated by fire rockets and muskets. Somehow several of my units turned around and I went on to rout the enemy with some 700 casualties on my side and 50 on the other.

So they just released the Ikko Ikki clan pack. I don't know about anyone else, but I've been dying to play this campaign as soon as I noticed the clan's unique units. I haven't played it just yet, but I am certainly looking forward to taking over japan with my legion of (peasant)warrior monks.

I don't care what anyone says, I think they kept Ikko Ikki out of it purposely to sell as DLC. I see no other reason they weren't playable in the main game at all, they were the most unique faction!

I'm a pessimist though.

Definitely agreeing with you here.
What the hell is this, $5 for one new faction which had no reason not to be playable to begin with?
