Haven't used the better kinds of archers, but considering that enemy archers were standing just withing range of mine and shooting at them I would have sworn that it didn't change at all.
I guess ashigaru units simply isn't good enough for the difference to be noticable.
You know that map where there's a long, straight and high hill, with a bit of the middle being impassible?
I'm kinda basing my experience on the times I've played on that map but only with ashigaru versus ashigaru and it seemed to me like it was playing out just like it would on a flat map.
Speaking of high ground, It makes me recall a great battle in Shogun 1 where the opponent had more than one stack and I had one & ½ Yumi, 1 Yari, 1 Naginata, 2 No-Dachi and 1 monk warriors.
I got the enemies to rout by having my no-dachi & monks hiding on a slope and then charge into the side of their army.
It was a great feeling =D

I don't know about melee, but archers definitely do not gain any range when on higher ground, whether hill or wall. I run pretty missile dependant army, so I really think I would have noticed, but all archers always start shooting at eachother from the same distance regardless of height. It is possible, I suppose, that they still get some kind of attack bonus or something, that would be a bit harder to check.

You know what I think is one of the most irritating things of battles in this game (aside from the extreme low number of maps, that is)? Not getting to position my troops after the enemies while siege-defending. That makes no sense at all.
Yes, It is irritating, but at the same time I could argue for both ways.
It's usually just a minor inconvenience as you can get your troop in position before the enemies arrives.
It's still annoying as hell, though. By the time I get all my archers into place, first wave of enemy is usually way into range and thus my guys fires fewer volleys than otherwise. I guess in the end it doesn't matter much and just means more dead people on my side, it is still one of the most irritating things about the game. As far as my experience go.

Like I thought.
This game somehow seems to include less circumstantial attributes than previous games and favor quick paced battles.

Oh right. So, I've been sabotaging all the farms a clan have and any happiness buildings for a few years now so I can just walk in and take it when I'm finished with other business.
Then It suddenly struck me that starving a province that I want to provide wealth isn't such a good idea after all.

Seriously, look at two archer units shooting at each other, one on high ground, when at max distance one's arrows often fll short and hit the ground, where'as the higher ground ones usually hit far more accurately.

Yeah, Perhaps. But that is accuracy, Not range which we were talking about.
I'll have to look at that the next time.

Pretty sure archery ranges are fixed. But you do get benefits from elevation, just no increased ranged.

This is probably to help out in multiplayer since if archer ranges still increased with elevation, there's absolutely no reason not to camp one single spot.

At least now you can shoot at them without taking too severe a penalty yourself.

On the note of ranged combat, Fire Rockets are way to powerful.  Seriosuly a fire rocket can kill 100-150 men in two firings, and they have insane range.  They seem to be paticualarily effective against calvary.... though I can't see why that would be.

Fire rockets are max tier units up a unit tree which isn't common, that's likely why.

I love them so much though. Just surround a fort with them and reign hell. I don't even care if I have to repair it, its glorious

Yeah, they're pretty scary. so tiny squad though and extremely liable to blow up your own guys >.>

Never put your general anywhere near them.

Hah, and always remember to keep you generals back if siege weapons are involved.

I took out all three who were chasing down a routing unit. Forgot to turn off auto fire

Has anyone here used the Additional Units Mod?  If so, does it add more tactical variety or are they basically copies of existing units?

So I'm into the Avatar Conquest Mode right now (seeing as how single player is crashing a bunch still), and I was wondering if there was some kind of Bay12 Clan? As a disclaimer, I'm pretty awful, but the MP is very fun and that's one aspect I'd like to explore.

Big update(2GB) went out today. patch notes. Looks like it contains fixes for many of the crashes and ai bugs people have been experiencing. Also the DX 11 support is finally added as well as 4 new multiplayer maps.
