ya few few legendary units versus a ton of ashugari will still show as strongly favoring the legendary units.  It is by far the best total war to date.

The AI is quirky, but i've found if you leave the ships they will sort themselves out and board. I tended to reclick which reset the ENTIRE damn process.

And i'm thinking AI takes quality into it a little now. My army outnumbered another, but the bar was in the middle because they were all samurai and I had all peasants.
Say 8 vs 8 naval battle, I line em up and order them to board the ship in front of them. two ships out of those eight border the opponent without problem while most of the others hooks(and that single hook is a retarded concept) their target and nothing else happens except they shoot arrows at each other.
And no, they do not sort themselves out.
The only thing that occasionally helps is to tell the ship to go to some faraway point and then tell them to return, and maybe it isn't stuck for no reason at all and actually leaves.

It is by far the best total war to date.
I have no complaints on land combat and agrees with that. Naval battles is fubar(Empire TW naval sucked more) and Diplomacy AI is just as retarded as ever.

In Empire's defense... it was technically realistic.

Sorry, It was quite long ago I played that so my memory is a bit vague.
But, 45 degree arc or fire(or something like it) isn't realistic. I know you could fire a broadside but the cannons should not be able to rotate.
Well, except the small cannon at the fore that some ships used.

it wasn't 45 degree
it was actually on 20* or so and that was just because the shot spread a bit.  The only thing anywhere close to 45* is the grapeshot, and that shit does spread alot.

This is how I remember it as well.

I don't understand these complaintsabout naval battles.  They're easily my favourite part of the game.

What actual issues do people have with them?

Ships getting stuck by just being near other ships, ships not boarding and just hanging out for a few minutes before i tell them to do something else, Ships navigating like a babys first steps due to pathfinding AI.
If I tell my ships to board another ship on collision course I expect them to do so, not just throw the single hook and slowly drive past, turn a bit and then just stay there getting shot at.

How do you guys manage to keep your generals loyal, I keep having them getting delusions of granduer, and no matter the marrige, adoption, or honor I give them they end up falling to be treatchourous.

I think that is caused by them conquering lots of provinces in a short space of time.  Either that, or conquering a lot more than the other generals.

Stick a Metsuke on him and play with your heirs. I only use the others enough to get full points in bushido arts skill =P

A quick google says theres shogun patch 1.1 which i do not have, perhaps that makes all the difference.

-Edit-
And reading on a bit it seems like the patches were just for multiplayer and localization bugs.
I'm gonna see if I can get a good replay saved on this, but now it is time for bed.

I *think*, not sure, that generals will get that trait if they start performing better than your daimyo. So if your daimyo is a fat lazy womanizer who sits in the capital munching on mochi while his hardened, super generals of almighty doom with 2000 loyal samurai under each are out in the cold rain laying siege to some ass-backward yokel Christian town... well... you get the idea. :P
