DarthMod for Shogun 2.  I haven't tested it yet, but this guy has made some serious improvements to past TW games with the predecessors to this.

It probably has some balance issues, though imo while it messes up balance it also makes the experience more enjoyable. For instance, characters getting 3 skill points per level instead of 2 means you'll not have to worry about managing skills to reach high-tier abilities as much. In my last two campaigns I felt very limited in what I could improve while keeping the agent effective.

There's also the beta of a mod which removes the AI's magic army spawning ability*. People who have tested it say the AI seriously suffers as it can't produce as many troops without the cheat spawn, and the troops it makes are largely Ashigaru versions.

I was watching my friend play it earlier, and the campaign time limit seems a bit short as far as I can tell.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I don't know, I'm one fourth of the way there, it's 1564 and I've been moving pretty slow. It's more that it encourages aggression.

Well thanks for the heads up. This just went off my buy list. 9gb update with Steam forced updating? Pass.

Umm, you can turn auto updating off...

......if you already have it updated and want to go offline. To register games you have to go online, meaning every time I get a new Steam game I'm forced to update all of them again.

Nope.  Library > right click on game > properties > updates.

You can turn updates on or off for individual games.

A tad delayed, but it it didn't work. I have an update needed for Supreme Commander 2, did as you said, but it tried to download the update when I hit the "play" button in Steam. I believe that just prevents it from auto downloading as soon as you log onto Steam, but it still requires the update to play, sadly.

Why is the turn time so long? Is it possible to play on a smaller map, like in the tutorial?

What're your guys favorite clans to start out as?

I'd recommend Chosokabe as a first clan.  Super powered archers and easy starting position.

I like the Date but I don't make use of their No-Dachi as much as I really should.

Anyone else try to play Oda yet?

I've gotten destroyed twice now by a Takeda, Imagawa, Hattori, Alliance on hard.  I'm doing pretty well on my third campaign becuase I Annihilated the Hattori off the map the second they pulled something funny and Takeda is going eastward (Takeda is way to overpowered by default).  It sucks being surrounded by enemies.

I'm about to win as Oda.

My priority was to wipe Tokugawa, Saito, and Imagawa off the face of the map, so I did that asap (took about 5 turns, and one battle involved my Daimyo's bodyguard vs 300 enemy besiegers). After that, I used my agents to run around as far around the map as I could. This is because I had no money to use them yet, and I wanted to get contact with all the clans.

Then I made trade routes with as many people as I could to improve relations and get more money. At the same time conquer more provinces etc.

Once I had alliances with Chosokabe, Takeda, and Date, I basically won.

Ok, I know it's been said before.

But what the shit were they smoking in the game-balance department when they let Nanban ships in?
"Vulnerable to being swarmed"- yeah, no.

Has anyone ever managed to defeat a Nanban ship with only japanese ships? Or even come close?

They were smoking the "let's make singleplayer awesome and forbid those ships in multiplayer" pipe.

As for the real question: Yes. Pretty easy with bomb, bow, matchlock, and cannon kobayas. Considering how freaking expensive one Nanban ship is and how long it takes to build, I don't mind sacrificing 10 light ships to kill it. Capturing it is a different matter.

If you want to capture it, you can try with lots of heavy bunes. The cannons on the Nanban ship can't aim down or up. So what happens is that while it initially inflicts ridiculous damage on your heavy bune, it can't sink it. The cannonballs start flying through the hull without inflicting casualties. Once your crew has recovered from the initial morale shock, you can charge in one by one to whittle it down. The small guns the sailors hold will still make you lose quite a few heavy bunes but whatever.

I started out as the sword guys in the end. The starting position isn't bad and they suit my playstyle (BANZAI). I've managed to successfully take out an army of the exact same size, except that had one extra general, without a single ashigaru (howevere you spell that) running. Commander of commoners get! :P

Your generals unit is bloody good in close combat.

Yes, but if the general dies you get a pretty massive moral hit so it's a risk
