When dealing with 100% christian towns, if you really don't want them to be christian, and don't have the monks available at the moment to convert them, immediately dismantle the port then try to make a temple asap. The nanban port gives a large bonus to christian conversion and it can offset even a 2nd tier temple I believe and the nanban quarter gives an even larger conversion rate.

Converting is only really necessary for the novelty, and if you want absolute naval dominance. The Nanban Trade Ship can dominate anything thrown at it. In any case, I converted, and after the brief early period of rebellion, investing in garrisons, and missionaries have made all but my most recent conquests 100 percent Christian. It tanks relations with the other Daimyo, but after a few years of inactivity and trying hard to get trade running between them, I was able to get in the green with all but my current rivals.

Lets put it this way. Christians are the only ones with cannons. Sieging castles and the final boss fight is 5 million times easier with cannons. Also, you know how the AI likes to camp a mountain if it doesn't think it can beat you? Blow him up with cannons.

I'd say that's a huge advantage. :P

Not to mention that Christian missionaries and buildings are nearly three times more effective than the Buddist ones, making it really easy to cause huge religious revolts everywhere.

I guess I just really like Buddhism. It seems less bloodthirsty than Christianity.

Oh wait would you look at that, Buddhist revolt and 6000 dead whelp

I've not actually gotten around to playing the game yet but can someone tell me how we are doing in the clan competition?

They also have a better Chi research bonus than Buddhist temples. Since it's more effective to build troops from specialized provinces the player can build at least a level 1 church in most conquered provinces, meaning better conversion and chi rates than if they went Buddhist.

Shinto-Buddhists only have Warrior Monks, usually good relations with other clans, and a Monk level boost from Holy Site specialty provinces.

Heh.. I was fighting a slightly inferior enemy, both armies placed on the low flatgrounds with a hill in between them on the enemies half. Well, since the hill was such an obvious defensible point, at first I was a little disappointed that he wasn't immediately heading towards it thanks to you people who've hyped the AI so much for me (and, to be honest, I had already seen the AI seek out better standpoints already). Anyway, as I marched up towards him, the AI suddenly yanked to life and sent all the men running for the hill, however, at this point I was already too his men. The only unit of it's who made it up the hill was the Light Cavalry "general". The rest, two units of spearmen, was engaged by to Yari units of my own, while my third Yari spearwalled itself on the slope to further cut off the cavalry and my general circled around the mess to deal with the enemy archers. The Light Cavalry then (well, not directly, I suppose, rahter when the archers were routed and the the other units began to loose) foolishly charged my spearwall in what I guess was an attempt to break through and attack my other Yari in the rear, getting him slaughtered. Not the brightest moment of the AI, I guess, but damn it feels good to have an enemy that actually does something on the battle field!

I've also been tricked twice by the AI's "cunning" flanking techniques. Really goes to show I'm not used to defending against anything else than a head on charge.  ;)

I played on legendary difficulty man. The AI intelligence increases with difficulty. It's pretty dumb on normal. Hard is interesting. Very hard is pretty hard.
