So, do I preorder it for the extra faction, or leave off buying this game?

IIRC, you only get the extra faction if you pre-order from Gamestop or other websites. Pre-ordering on Steam gets you TF2 loot. Just in case you didn't realize - I didn't until I did a bit of background reading. 

If you're not seriously interested, I'd give it a pass. It's a single-player-dominated game, so it'll probably be on sale before too long - Christmas at the latest, and possibly before that.

And even if you don't pre-order it, you can always buy it in some legal way then acquire it a second time in a maritime way to play around with the extra faction.
Though that would take up a ludicrous amount of space for one game.

I'm sure the bonus faction will eventually be available as DLC. What I don't get though, is if it's a steam game then why didn't steam pre-orders get the extra faction as well?

When I got that it was because steam had a client update popup that for some reason didn't take focus so I never saw it for ages. Stopped at 74% as well so I assume something in the game needed the update. No idea if that is any help to you.

Nah, Shades, it turns out it just has trouble getting past that point. Also, I think Shogun just gave me bluescreen. ._. First time I've seen that on Windows 7.

EDIT: Holy crap. Shogun 2 keeps bluescreening me. This is one of those things that I don't think is fixable without hardware upgrades. Do you guys reckon I can get a refund off the tightfisted Valve? :p

Probably the inevitable day one patch that has to download now you have the game installed.

If you're having problems, go to steam, right click the game icon, go to properties, local files, and click 'Verify integrity of game cache'.

No idea if it will help, but it might.

Incidentally, looks as if we can just turn the steam group directly into a clan without any fuss. Should I do it?

Is there any indication of the ninja faction being added back in if I ever spend some money on this or am I permanently fucked out of a large chunk of content because retailers want everybody to preorder so they don't have too keep the game on the shelf after release?

The extra clan isn't really that interesting, judging from the in game encyclopedia.

Also, I don't know what kind of issues anyone else has been having, but the game runs perfectly for me.
