To be honest with Napoleon I was actually surprised by how effectively the AI could flank and ambush so i'm hopeful.
And the only way to stop it front endlessly trying to circle around you is by setting up in a corner. At which point it will try to hug the map edges and still refuse to attack anywhere near the middle of your line.

And cannon crews are still better at teamkilling then at actual shooting. Especially when they lock onto something that is flanking you and fire straight through your entire line(which is always).

Furthermore, I dislike the drawings on the unit cards. It's hard to tell what's what. In the old games you could immediately tell what you were looking at by seeing how much bling was on it and whether or not there is a bow or a horse prominently displayed on the card. In this game, everything is a rainbow colored mess.

Heh? Really? Because I tried that and it just ran at me.

Or maybe you're talking about when you have a bigger army, because then of course its not going to attack. What general in their right mind would?

Anyway, yeah, the unit cards are terrible, I still don't actually know what the hell is what. I can tell from the pictures but the ranking system is just odd and unless you remember what the pictures are, you won't be able to tell what unit does what.

(i'm not mentioning cannons because I've never had a problem with them, probably because I'm very specific about what they shoot at)

Yeah, fire at will on cannons = you fail.

Micro management is the way to go on Napoleon.

I know many people will disagree but I personally like the new unit cards and just the new UI in general,  it adds a cool new feel to the game and really it isn't that hard to tell the pictures apart once you get used to it.  Just the fact that it sorts them by unit type instead of creation date or whatever weird thing empire had going on is a massive improvement.

The sorting by unit type is a bloody welcome example. It sucks in medieval 2 when i'm playing to have to search for my archers as they're being charged. I don't like pausing the game because it feels cheaty.

I'm aware I could just select the unit, but sometimes i'm not looking right at them and my brain stops working and ARRGH

I never had to get used to it. If you're having troubles, possibly your resolution is not good? Or perhaps I'm just special.

Anyway, I'm loving the demo, although limiting the tutorial to three battles per campaign was unnecessarily crippling. Ah well. The historical battle is haaaaard, probably because even though I've been following this game since Medieval II, played each game chronologically and started at Rome (my shitty computer demanded it) I'm actually really crap at this game and they've made the AI pretty decent this time around.

Also, I love the slight upgrade in movement speed. Makes the whole thing feel more flow-y. And I just think Japan is a beautiful country in general and it doesn't look like a brown, boring mess on my computer like, for some reason, Empire did. Actually, it runs better than Empire, whodathunkit.

Jackrabbit: Nah, you're just outnumbered three to one in the historical battle. :P

I was going to download the demo... Then steam told me it was a 6gb demo. Here's my precise reaction:

6 fucking gigabytes?
What the fuck, fucking 6 gb for a demo, fuck fuck, the fuck is wrong with you? Fuck, fuck bomb this fucking fuck. What's the game like then?

Then I looked at the steam page...

20 fucking gb? The fuck, what do you have there that takes 20 fucking giga! The fuck, can't you make games anymore fucking shit fuck, fuck you.

And now I'm considering removing it from my wish list. X-Com 2, 4.5mb download, infinitely better.

Major turn off and hype kill that was. Never in fucking hell I will download 20gb for a single game or 6gb for a demo. Unless of course it's the distant future and the humans are dead and our internets is like 1gb/s.

And pay the absurd bloated local price?

And waste 20gb of hd space?

Do you know how much porn fits in 20gb?

No thanks. It's plain fail.

Plus I just had a half tera HD die on me.

Ohh, ouch dude. Half a terabyte is not a nice thing to lose.

But I actually have no idea where you live, so I dunno how bloated it is there.

I've been noticing this trend. They're artificially inflating the size of the games by shipping uncompressed high definition CGI videos for little cut-scenes and using uncompressed sounds for everything. They did it with Empire, a whole 15 Gigs for that one, whereas at least one version that made the rounds on the torrent sites was pared down to a mere 5. That's ten whole gigabytes removed just from compressing video and audio files, and doing nothing else.

As for the why? To make pirates suffer for it. Of course, the aforementioned compressed version defeats that purpose, but still, you get the idea.

Around +50-100% for boxes. Yeah, up to double the price. It's ridiculous. Then they complain of piracy here. We already don't make as much, comparatively, and they try to charge twice the price. Plus I don't know if we will have the boxed set here, I only see CD keys for sale to use on steam and those are 53 dollars... Sooooo... I'd rather buy on steam if I bought it at all.

I will wait for the ripped/recompressed version in the warez scene. But I doubt I will buy and keep an original version, due to the size alone.

@Ampersand: That's not suffering for pirates. Not one bit. Every scene team releases the content with ninja-compression. Dragon Age 2 for example is 5gb to download, 8gb installed. Bulletstorm you can download with as little as 3gb. If the purpose is to hurt pirates, they're doing it wrong, hurting only customers.

My theory is that it is because they don't fucking care anymore. You can have gigantic textures and 1080p mpeg2 movies in your game, so why not put them in? Everyone has hyper high connection speeds and several terabyte HDDs, just like every school teacher thinks the kids in school only have their class' homework to do, so each single teacher gives 4 hour of homework.

It's not Ninja compression. It is just the standard compression that Game companies used to do before when they had to worry about storage capacity of distribution media and hard drives.

Nono, some warez-installers actually compress the audio, video, and textures before decompressing them to what the game understands. Well, not every scene team does that, that was an exaggeration.
