Those balloons are called 'horo' according to CA.

And yes, they are fabric bags.

CA just limited them to the general's bodyguard unit to make them more noticable in battle.

Apparently they stopped arrows.
Although you'd have thought their effectiveness would get reduced after the first one.

They're not balloons, they've got structure to them beyond air that can be let out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horo_%28cloak%29

Why when people post things that I know not going to be a good idea do I still feel the urge to go google? must resist.

I wish the results were more exciting, I was getting my  hopes up but alas they were a bit boring.

These days i've been playing Rome for a while

Conquered 35 Regions so far... and realized that even Rome doesn't run all that well. Abysmally so, when i consider how old it is compared to my PC. (though thats not new by any means)
-> went ahead, preordered Shogun 2. Paid only 29€ too, yay. Not bad for a big new title :>

Demo is out.  Played it, seems pretty good.  I'll have to mess with it some more, but it seems that the AI is actually... not extremely stupid this time.  Could have just been scripted things for the demo though, hard to say.

The demo's combat is completely scripted though. We haven't had a chance to see actual combat AI yet.

Well, I'm enjoying M2:TW, but I've never been a talented gamer, so the random revolt in Constantinople was rather crippling. 30k florins in debt baby!

Not so sure about that.  I've played through the tut campaign a couple of times and the AI in the final battle at least has performed differently each time.

It's scripted in that there are limitations on how it reacts so that it acts correctly for the tutorial, I imagine there is still some of the AI running underneath that and would expect it to be better in the full game. Although obviously not as good as a human player.

I'm hoping for a good AI this time around. If it's crap... well, that would kind of be expected.

To be honest with Napoleon I was actually surprised by how effectively the AI could flank and ambush so i'm hopeful.

Considering that Napoleon was Empire 1.5, I'm not too hopeful.

On that note, WHY DID EVERY SINGLE TIME MY INFANTRY GO IN FRONT OF CANNONS MUST THEY FIRE?
