There are no words I can express to commemmorate my happiness at this news. Screw gunpowder and silly naval combat, it's time for a return to the super samurai!

Let's hope that they finally fix the AI (both tactical and strategic) and the horrible pathfinding.

I'm hesitantly optimistic about this. I've been wanting a remake of Shogun since Medieval 2 came out. But Empire just made me lose all hope from that company. I still don't think it gets any better than Rome.

IMO Shogun worked better than later TW games because it was simpler (yet in a not frustrating way). The problem with a remake is that it will likely follow the pattern set by Rome-MTW2-Empire, and I doubt very much they'll code a proper AI for it.

Heck, it's not like the original Shogun AI was flawless, but it's much easier to cope with STW's relatively simple gameplay than with MTW2's civilization-esque strategic map

Damn, was i the only one hope they would make a WW1 Total War game? :P

So far the best trench warfare game is WW1 Medic.

It would be awesome if they went back to cloth map with regions instead of what is there now, it was more "strategic" in my opinion as you wouldn't have to be bothered with minor stuff like ordering your generals to use this road or other.

CA scammed me out of €60 with a sub-par product with empire and tried to steal another €40 with napoleon by claiming everything I despised from empire was fixed while doing exactly the opposite. They better do something really awesome with this one if they want any chance of ever seeing any of my money again.

i concur with the consensus of this thread. CA have lost the thread a bit. Shogun was by far their most polished game. Although i really like Rome, there is a strong arguement that over the sequals they just improved the graphics and chucked a load of stuff at you rather than improving the game play.

I think they need to completly rethink alot of stuff like how territory, tech trees, diplomacy and the general game works.

havnt played the latest incartations by the diplomatic and battlefield AI in MTW2 was state of the art moronic. If some one allies with you, they will probably invade within the next five turns. If the you sit on a hill the enemy moves its force into range of your archers and then sits there as it realises it doesnt have the numbers to storm the hill etc.

Shogun: Total War was the only one I ever played. It was a great game, though admittedly I wasn't too good at it back then. If they're going to be making a sequel to it, I'm going to be excited. Shogun had this flair about it that made it fun to just start a new game and start playing. I've never found that exact attraction in other PC games.

I'm not buying this because I doubt they've hired a half-competent AI programmer yet. I think their current one is company owner's son or something, because I can't think of anything else that would explain why he hasn't been fired yet.

Or at least when betraying someone, they should actually launch a massive invasion as a declaration of war instead of, you know, send 1 row boat to blockade a port or something similarly stupid. It's foolish to hope for this seeing as the developers seem unwilling to make the campaign A.I challenging at all, but I'd like a more complex system to rebellions and the loyalty system : If your peasantry revolts, they might encourage neighbouring regions to revolt, and if nobles/generals that are malcontent with your rule, might actually form a new faction and claim independence/become a vassal state to a neighbouring enemy! And say if it was a Christian revolt while you had bad relations to the Papacy, His Holyness might support the rebel commander(s), thereby making them a legit nation.

Good campaign AI is just a pipe dream. I'd be happy with a half-decent battle AI.

I pretty much expected this.

I do kind of hope they regear naval battles so we can have some oldschool samurai boarding action instead of people jumping straight into the ocean and drowning while taking pot shots at each other.
