>.> That's kinda odd since they are rather different belief systems, though both where practiced heavily in Japan. But whatever, that makes more sense than completeing excludeing it.

Though they are quite different, they are not mutually exclusive such as we often consider Western religions such as Christianity and Islam or Judaism, most people are one or the other and not a mix. This world view and religious delineation has not always been held by all cultures.

In the case of Buddhism and Shintoism, there were times where they were at odds (when Buddhism was first introduced to Japan for example), and also times where they existed side by side without problems. At times, we know that people might observe some of each of the religions, though usually they identified more strongly with one of them, it did not prevent them from practicing both when desired. This is true of other religions in other places, including the Judeo-Christian followings.

Now, I am not defending some sort of faithful historical recreation ethic from Creative Assembly, I am sure at some point they just said, "close enough, wrap it up". Perhaps Shinto Buddhism is just there to represent the twin traditional Japanese religions which had found harmony in their culture and Christianity is the new, offensive devil-spawn.

There is a third religion from the ikko ikki that causes problems too.

Right. The actual religion was Shin Buddhism.

So, did anyone find a tactic for multiplayer sea battles except "have cannon bunes, then win"? I mean, they have longer range and higher firepower than anything else, fast ships that can actually catch them rout from one volley from their cannons and larger ones rout after three salvos. So far every sea battle I've played is against some guy that lines up his cannon bunes, then my whole fleet routes before I've even reached his melee ships.  :-\

Its pretty much "I have cannon bunes".

On the single player side, get a good general and a good army, land him on the other side of the island. Just loot everything, only stay in a province long enough to replenish your troops.

The payoff? Depending on what you loot, enough money to fund 5 other armies

Anyone got any tips for the realm divide? I keep getting stonewalled just outside of kyoto by multiple full stack armies.

Avoid it for as long as possible to build up your economy/army.
Factions created after the Realm Divide do not suffer the diplomatic penalty (and can be used for trade)
With everyone against you, you are completely free to use agents since even the relationship hit for failure doesn't matter anymore. Monk insurrections and bribes can be used to topple the AI's ungarrisoned inner cities.

I'm liking the Avatar Campaign map idea for multiplayer, and the game in general.
Fought and won my first battle, very intense and close victory. Second battle I routed the enemy army only a couple minutes in, was dumbfounded. Then I decided to play sea battle, having enjoyed sea battles in singleplayer. But cannon bunes.
My only qualm with the singleplayer is that realm divide doesn't work well from a fun standpoint. Getting to 15 provinces and suddenly having the rest of the realm declare war on you is on the edge,  but still likable. However, noticing that all the AI is no longer at war with one another, and soon comes to be all allied with trade flourishing is really silly. I'd also prefer if it was more of a gradual thing, as in people who actually like the shogun jump in first, and so on, with people who hate the shogun ignoring his call and what not.

You can get the mod that adjusts the severity of the realm divide to make it more believable. Richard put the link somewhere in here a few pages back.

Edit: I'm still unable to play multiplayer at all. No games show up in the battle list. Matchmaking won't connect me. All ports open, no firewall etc. It just doesn't work for me.

Yeah, multiplayers a bit iffy for me too. Sometimes it will take literally half an hour to connect. Its lucky I had friends over who pointed out it had started.

Found it, for any others who don't want to search 20 pages back:

Mod just released that reduces the effects of realm divide, letting you actually keep your vassals and closest allies, and not making diplomacy utterly useless in the late game.
