I played on legendary difficulty man. The AI intelligence increases with difficulty. It's pretty dumb on normal. Hard is interesting. Very hard is pretty hard.
Is this true? I would get this game right now if it is and the difficulty isn't based on cheating AI.

It may be based on both, as the AI certainly does cheat or get handicap bonuses to some extent.

On campaign they occasionally create armies in unexlored province.

Or so I heard, never saw it myself

When are separate difficulty sliders for the campaign and battles coming back?
Will buying the game now get me a crippled version that's missing an entire faction?
Does CA throw a hissy fit if I get my steam key from g2play or similar?

Those are my main concerns before buying.

Separate difficulty sliders ARE in. You can even change the Battle difficulty at any time from the options menu.

Speaking as a steam user, despite pre-ordering I didn't get the Hattori faction... though I did get some TF2 items that are waiting for me. I haven't seen anything that makes them particularly worth worrying over.

I'm not sure about #3.

1 They are there, in the options menu
2 meh, their only bonus is spying, and since I have more spies than them in the campaign.......
3 They'll probably take it. the game is a Steam game after all and you should be able to use the key to activate it.

Just a not: if you buy it make sure EVERY driver is up to date and ensure that your motherboard's BIOS is up to date as well

I too saw the AI cheat. They spawned a Daimyo outside their last city after I just murdered the last one and his son. Then killed that one and took the castle heh.

The extra faction was a 'limited edition' bonus. Despite this being a Steamworks game, the Steam release of said game was not the limited edition; only 'selected retailers' got it, and Steam wasn't selected.  ::)

That said, you instead got Genuine-quality TF2 items. Even if you don't give a rat's arse about TF2 items, there are lots of collectors who apparently do. I heard about one person who managed to sell his Genuine items for ~$20, and another person who got almost $50 worth of games gifted to him for his loot. So, yeah, one mostly-useless faction and one extra historical battle, or the ability to make the scum of the TF2 community drool on command.  ;)

Yeah, the ai cheats in the campaign screen. But I've never seen it cheat in the battle screen. Or at least, if it does, it must do it extremely subtly.

You can start a campaign on normal or hard, then switch battle ai to legendary or so.

Yes, I've tested this and the AI does spawn more units and more experienced units than are possible with the buildings it has available. It seems to do so if it is severely outmatched by nearby enemies. However it will only do this when out of sight, so you can prevent this by using agents to keep an entire area under observation. As long as all of a clans provinces are under observation, it has to hold to the same rules as the player for production/upkeep of units.

I never played Napoleon total war so could someone explain how multiplayer campaigns works.  I'm assuming there somehow shortened or else thats a massive time investment.

Also what are your opinions on multi-player?

I honestly haven't touched multiplayer yet, but I've heard both great and terrible things.
